Default Spy-Bot Scan detects and stops at Cool Search

I have a Sony laptop that previouly ran normal speed on DSL, and now is very slow. At about the same time during Spy-Bot scan, it ran thru OK until it stops at Cool Search. Does anyone have any suggestions, or explanation?

    Could you please do this?

    • Open SpyBot.
    • Check for problems.
    • When finished, right click and choose copy results (not the full report) to clipboard and post that into topic.

Default I have the same problem

My scan also goes only to coolwwwsearch and keeps running but does not scan any further ...

I also tried installing and running coolwebsearch smartkiller from http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4113.html but that download won't open for me.

Here is the report from Spybot after I checked for problems and had to stop the program:

That's more for if Spybot flashes and disappears, from a cws infection from a few years back. So,you might not want to worry about getting cws smartkiller to open, anyways,I'm not even sure that cws infection is around anymore.

There are a couple things you could try here:

What os do you have? Are you having any malware type problems?

    Default CWS Problem

I am also on XP home. Besides Spybot getting stuck at CWS I am having a problem not able to download flash into one of my user accounts. Works fine in another one and have been led to believe it is due to some type of virus or something preventing it from opening and running but only in that user.

I have tried running Spybot in safemode and also get the same result of sticking at CWS (only gets about a 1/4 of the way through the file scan). I am running a fully updated v 1.4 of Spybot.

    Any other suggestions?

Thanks. I see in your title, that you say Spybot detects cws, then stops scanning. So,does Spybot say anything when that happens, like give you an error message,or does anything come up in red?Or,does the scan just stop at cws?

I've had my own issues with getting flash player installed, actually. On the account that you can't get flash player working,is it an administrator account,or is it a limited account?
    They have a troubleshooting page,here:

Any other signs that you might have malware/a virus on your computer?

Did you try clearing temp files?

Do you know if your computer uses Hyperthreading Technology (htt)?

There are a couple other suggestions to try in this post:

    Thumbs up

Zeno - Thanks ... yes I did clear temp files and successfully ran Spybot. So it seems we cleared that hurdle! Thanks for your feedback on Flashplayer. I really have no idea which account is admin account versus limited. I can only assume the one that flash works fine on is the admin account, so I will see if that takes care of it. Apparently need to uninstall and reinstall. Story of my life all weekend

After running Spybot and Macafee I really don't know if I have any other viruses running around, but assume i am clean.

HTT? Above my pay grade/knowledge of the computer ! Is a 4 year old Dell running a Intel P4 and XP SP2 is about all I know.

If you have any other tips, let me know.

    Thanks

Glad you got Spybot to run okay.
When I had problems with Flash player,I had to uninstall/reinstall,using their uninstaller, too.

And you can test it here:
    http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/view...5507&sliceId=1
There's a bit about administrator/limited accounts in here:
    http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/view...9166&sliceId=1

Well, right now the links are saying my connection was refused,so if you get that, maybe wait a bit and try again later.
