    Default vundo, viruses, and spyware

Hi, I am helping a family member with their computer. I ran vundo.exe by Atribune and removed the vundo files. I updated Java and removed outerinfo pop ups with their uninstaller. I downloaded adaware 2007 and Avg antispyware and ran them both to delete the spyware. I also updated the hosts file based on a tutorial from bleepingcomputer.com.Lastly I downloaded and ran Avg virus scanner and removed 125 viruses. I have ran hijack this and will post the log file. Could you please check it over to see if there is anything else I need to do to make sure the computer is running normal. Thank you for your help in advance.

Welcome to Safer Networking, I wish to be sure you have viewed and understand this information.
"BEFORE you POST" (READ this Procedure before Requesting Assistance)
    http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=288
All advice given is taken at your own risk.
Please make sure you have read this information so we are on the same page.

You have a nasty infection here, this may take a while? My first suggestion, because you have trojans, is to stay offline except when troubleshooting until I tell you that you are clean. Nice of you to help out, remove Vundofix from the computer including the C:\Vundofix Backups\ If we need the tool again we will download it fresh.

    1) C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Common\ViewpointService.exe
    C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager\ViewMgr.exe
For your information, Viewpoint is installed by aol probably without your knowledge. I suggest you uninstall this resource waster in Add Remove programs.

    http://www.spywareinfo.com/newslette....php#viewpoint
    http://www.clickz.com/news/article.php/3561546

    2) Ad-Aware 2007 <<< this is a new version and not much is know yet, please exit that program until you finish.

    3) AVG Anti-Spyware: Deactivate the Resident Shield
    - Before proceeding, deactivate the "Resident Shield" as this may prevent changes to the registry.
    - To do this, click "Change State" to the right of the Resident Shield option in the main window.
    - You will clearly see the status change to Inactive if you have done this correctly.

    4) Open Hijackthis.
Click the "Open the Misc Tools" section Button.
Click the "Open Uninstall Manager" Button.
    Click the "Save list..." Button.
Save it to your desktop. Copy and paste the contents into your reply.
(You may edit out Microsoft, Hotfixes, Security Update for Windows XP, Update for Windows XP and Windows XP Hotfix to shorten the list)

    5) Thanks to sUBs and anyone else who helped with this fix.

Download ComboFix from Here or Here to your Desktop.
    • Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
    • When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log and a HiJackthis log in your next reply

Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while its running. That may cause it to stall

    Thanks

I have followed all the steps you suggested. I was unable to find a way to exit adaware 2007 but it is not currently running that I can see. I also forgot to mention that the computer is setup for two users but I only have one logged in. Thanks again for your help.

Thanks for returning your information and the feedback, you said:
I was unable to find a way to exit adaware 2007 but it is not currently running that I can see.
I am not sure, I run Ad-Aware SE personal but do not intend to update to that program. Is it not free? That being the case, uninstall if you need to.
I also forgot to mention that the computer is setup for two users but I only have one logged in.
Always a chance one user is infected and another is not, I will need to see a HJT log at least at some point. I will let you know.

You are running two antivirus programs at the same time and this is not a good thing. They conflict with each other and you will be less safe than if you ran one good program and maintained it properly. Uninstall one, update the one you keep and run a complete system scan, post for me any item that can't be removed, the complete name and pathway.

    http://www.smartcomputing.com/editor...8s07/38s07.asp

    Grisoft\AVG7
    Trend Micro\Internet Security 12\
Uninstall one of those before you post another HJT log.

Uninstall List: I look for malware and security issues. As far as I can see, everything looks ok. You should make sure nothing is running you do not know.

You can see all of the junk removed by combofix, let do this now:

    1) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
    http://www.atribune.org/content/view/25/2/
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

    2) Use the instructions to turn these off, they will block HJT
    C:\Program Files\Lavasoft\Ad-Aware 2007\aawservice.exe
    C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5\guard.exe

    3) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

    O2 - BHO: 0 - {28560137-3A09-4ECC-B884-EF23FEB6FF91} - C:\Program Files\Common Files\qucamo484.dll (file missing)
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {3A1949A6-8895-495C-AD13-7E975292C40A} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\geeba.dll (file missing)
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {46EF926F-52C5-431B-AAC9-509B0B73F0FF} - C:\Program Files\Windows NT\meqo83122.dll (file missing)

    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Ikbegevc] C:\WINDOWS\??stem32\t?skmgr.exe

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

    4) Follow the directions in this link to run AVG Anti-Spyware, make sure you delete or quarantine anything it finds and save the scan report to post.

    http://forums.security-central.us/showthread.php?t=3165

    5) Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
    Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Restart the computer and post the AVG Anti-Spyware scan results, a new HJT log and your comments. How is the computer running now.

    Thanks

I deleted one of the virus scanners and adaware 2007. I will reinstall the adaware later. The computer for this user seems to be running great. I have not checked the other user yet. I would definetly like any suggestions to keep this computer safe and Thank You very much for your help.

I see no malware in this HJT log, looks good

Sign in to the other user and create, then post a HJT log. Be sure to mark it plainly so you will know which is which.

    Thanks

Bunch of junk, I am not sure if we need to run combofix or not, let see if HJT will remove the stuff.

While still signed into this user...

    1) Start > Control Panel > Add Remove programs and uninstall: PurityScan, OIN, Outerinfo, WinTouch, WinPop and anything else you see that you know should not be there.

    2) AVG Anti-Spyware: Deactivate the Resident Shield
    - Before proceeding, deactivate the "Resident Shield" as this may prevent changes to the registry.
    - To do this, click "Change State" to the right of the Resident Shield option in the main window.
    - You will clearly see the status change to Inactive if you have done this correctly.

    3) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://mysearch.myway.com/jsp/dellsidebar.jsp?p=DE
    R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {4D25F926-B9FE-4682-BF72-8AB8210D6D75} - (no file)
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Sen] "C:\DOCUME~1\shelby\APPLIC~1\SSTEM~1\chkdsk.exe" -vt yazb
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Kuvw] "C:\Documents and Settings\shelby\My Documents\M?crosoft\w?nlogon.exe"
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [WinPop] C:\Program Files\WinPop\winpop.exe
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [WinTouch] C:\Documents and Settings\shelby\Application Data\WinTouch\WinTouch.exe
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [SfKg6w] C:\Documents and Settings\shelby\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows\sdyljkhk.exe
    O24 - Desktop Component 0: (no name) - C:\Program Files\Common Files\rtelebi.html

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

    4) RIGHT Click on Start then click on Explore. Locate and delete these items:
(some files and folders may be gone, just do not miss any)

    C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS~1\shelby\APPLICATION DATA~1\SSTEM~1\ <<< delete that folder

    C:\Program Files\WinPop\ <<< delete that folder

    C:\Documents and Settings\shelby\Application Data\WinTouch\ <<< delete that folder

    C:\Documents and Settings\shelby\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows\sdyljkhk.exe <<< delete that file

    C:\Program Files\Common Files\rtelebi.html <<< delete that file

Follow the directions in this link to run AVG Anti-Spyware, make sure you delete or quarantine anything it finds and save the scan report to post.http://forums.security-central.us/showthread.php?t=3165

    Run Clean Manager
    http://spyware-free.us/tutorials/cleanmgr/

Restart the computer and post a new HJT log from each user, mark them plainly.

    Thanks
