Drive cleaner malware removal

I have been getting those drive cleaner pop-ups every now and then. I have done my best trying to remove it myself and trying what other people have gotten to work, but I am still having problems. At one point Symantec detected an (supposedly) cleaned virtumonde from my system, but I am still having problems.

Create own folder for HijackThis to desktop and move it to that folder.

Rename hijackthis.exe to dumb.exe and post back a fresh HijackThis log

With a little more digging, I found I have a problem with that worm with the process called system23.exe It looks like nod32 is having some difficultly fulling removing it.

Then only occur when I am browsing the internet, and it is not very often at all. Every other day maybe.

Do you use any hosts file and/or noscript in Firefox?

All I know is that the what happens is whatever it is takes over a window I am browsing and does the drivecleaner popup with it. Nod32 found a worm that uses system23.exe. It is gone now, but I had it removed before and it came back.

We can run one online to be sure:

Please do an online scan with Kaspersky Online Scanner. You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.

• The program will launch and then start to download the latest definition files.
• Once the scanner is installed and the definitions downloaded, click Next.
• Now click on Scan Settings
• In the scan settings make sure that the following are selected:
  
  o Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
  
  + Extended (If available otherwise Standard)
  
  o Scan Options:
  
  + Scan Archives
  + Scan Mail Bases
  
• Click OK
• Now under select a target to scan select My Computer
• The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run. Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
• Now click on the Save as Text button
• Save the file to your desktop.
• Copy and paste that information in your next post.

Note for Internet Explorer 7 users: If at any time you have trouble with the accept button of the license, click on the Zoom tool located at the right bottom of the IE window and set the zoom to 75 %. Once the license accepted, reset to 100%.

Please run this online scan:

Panda ActiveScan

• Once you are on the Panda site, click the Scan your PC button
• A new window will open...click the Check Now button
• Enter your Country
• Enter your State/Province
• Enter your e-mail address and click send
• Select either Home User or Company
• Click the big Scan Now button
• If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
• It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
• When download is complete, click on Local Disks to start the scan
• When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location.
