    .
    Using Internet Explorer..correct? If so, just wait on that, if we can't download it later, we will use another scan.

    Nasty infection, expect it to take a while and not be easy.

    http://siri.geekstogo.com/SmitfraudFix.php <<< download Smitfraudfix from here and follow ONLY these directions.

    Search:
    Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe
    Select 1 and hit Enter to create a report of the infected files. The report can be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

    Note: process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool". It is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.
    http://www.beyondlogic.org/consultin...rocessutil.htm

    Post the C:\rapport.txt only.

    Thanks

    Take the time to read about this:

    Thanks for returning your information, read and follow these directions carefully.

    http://siri.geekstogo.com/SmitfraudFix.php <<< tutorial if needed.

    Clean:
    Reboot your computer in Safe Mode (before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually)
    Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe
    Select 2 and hit Enter to delete infect files.
    You will be prompted: Do you want to clean the registry ? answer Y (yes) and hit Enter in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.
    The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found): Replace infected file ? answer Y (yes) and hit Enter to restore a clean file.
    A reboot may be needed to finish the cleaning process. The report can be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

    Optional:
    To restore Trusted and Restricted site zone, select 3 and hit Enter.
    You will be prompted: Restore Trusted Zone ? answer Y (yes) and hit Enter to delete trusted zone.
    Note, if you use SpywareBlaster and/or IE-SPYAD, it will be necessary to re-install the protection both afford. For SpywareBlaster, run the program and re-protect all items. For IE-SPYAD, run the batch file and reinstall the protection.

    Post the C:\rapport.txt and a new HJT log, include feedback about performance.

    Thanks

    Hiya, thanks - the pop up has stopped appearing. However, I still cant access add and remove programmes, or some other access tools. Message appears 'This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator.'
    This message also appeared when I ran the optional part of SmitFraud instructed above - and also when it attempted to clean the registry.

    HJT file follows, and then the new rapport text.

    Thanks for returning your you information and the feedback, once we are sure you are clean we will see what we can do about any issues left from the infection.

    This item must be hard to remove, please follow these directions and post a new C:\rapport.txt.
    »»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»» Reboot
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\skuns.dat Please, Reboot and Run SmitfraudFix option 2 once again.
    Could be that is the item causing the other issues, please be sure you are signed in as the sustem administrator and not just a user.

    AFTER you do this, then follow these insructions:

    You are running two antivirus programs at the same time and this is not a good thing. They conflict with each other and you will be less safe than if you ran one good program and maintained it properly. Uninstall one, update the one you keep and run a complete system scan, post for me any item that can't be removed, the complete name and pathway.

    Hiya, delted one antivirus programme as instructed - had only downloaded avg the other day to try and get rid of this! So now only running McAffe.

    Completed all other instructions, although after running HJT for the system scan, I couldn't locate the three system32 files. Located the system32 folder, and searched each contained folder but couldnt locate /proper.exe, /winter.exe or /skuns.exe. However, everytime i restart the computer I get a pop-up error message saying 'Could not locate file C:\WINDOWS\system32\proper.exe. To search for a file please use Search command in Start menu.'

    New HJT and Rapport logs follow.

    Thanks for the feedback, looks like Smitfraudfix got it all that time...what a tool!

    Time to give Kaspersky another try to look for anything hidden HJT can not see. First, have a look at this great troubleshooting site:
    http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp.htm
    http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm <<< especially here for fixing your other issues.

    Run this online scan using Internet Explorer:
    Kaspersky Online Scanner from http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner

    Next Click on Launch Kaspersky Online Scanner

    You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.

    * The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
    * Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
    * Now click on Scan Settings
    * In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
    * Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
    * Standard
    * Scan Options:
    * Scan Archives
    * Scan Mail Bases
    * Click OK
    * Now under select a target to scan:
    * Select My Computer
    * This will program will start and scan your system.
    * The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
    * Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
    * Now click on the Save as Text button:
    * Save the file to your desktop.

    Then post it here.

    Thanks
