my Dell with windows xp is slowing down like crazy and i did a hijack this scan. here it is..i know i have Ctfmon.exe parasite and wonder how to get rid of it and if theres any other problems. thanx again..

Ctfmon.exe activates the Microsoft Office Language Bar and the Alternative User Input Text Input Processor.

Your log looks fine, but do this as it may not be showing the whole picture.

Go to Start> Run and type in msconfig hit Enter and on the Main page make sure Normal Start Up is selected, ok your way out , reboot and post a new HJT log please

Hello Bobby,

Clean log Why dont you run this scan from Panda, its pretty good about picking up things that may not be showing on your log.

First run this system cleaner that will clean out all the cobwebs.

Download CCleaner from here to clean temp files from your computer.

• Double click on the file to start the installation of the program.
• Select your language and click OK, then next.
• Read the license agreement and click I Agree.
• Click next to use the default install location. Click Install then finish to complete installation.
• Double click the CCleaner shortcut on the desktop to start the program.
• On the "Windows" tab, under "Internet Explorer," uncheck "Cookies" if you do not want them deleted. (If deleted, you will likely need to reenter your passwords at all sites where a cookie is used to recognize you when you visit).
• If you use either the Firefox or Mozilla browsers, the box to uncheck for "Cookies" is on the Applications tab, under Firefox/Mozilla.
• Click on the "Options" icon at the left side of the window, then click on "Advanced."
  deselect "Only delete files in Windows Temp folders older than 48 hours."
• Click on the "Cleaner" icon on the left side of the window, then click Run Cleaner to run the program.
• Caution: It is not recommended that you use the "Issues" feature unless you are very familiar with the registry as it has been known to find legitimate items.
• After CCleaner has completed its process, click Exit.

*NOTE* CCleaner deletes EVERYTHING out of temp/temporary folders. If you have anything in a temp folder, back it up or move it to a permanent folder prior to running CCleaner!



Run Panda's ActiveScan from here and perform a full system scan. This will only run with Internet Explorer

• Once you are on the Panda site click the "Scan your PC" button
• A new window will open...click the big "Check Now" button
• Enter your Country
• Enter your State/Province
• Enter your e-mail address and click send
• Select either Home User or Company
• Click the big Scan Now button
• If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
• It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It will take a couple minutes)
• If you are on a slow connection it will take about 15 minuites for the scanner to load.
• Click on "Local Disks" to start the scan
• Once scan is done, click "see report" then "save report"
• Save the log someplace you can find
• Reboot
• Post the Panda scan results in your next reply

hey i did that,and when it was scanning,my anti-virus AVAST displayed a message in the lower right hand corner that said "add on contains sample of win32 mtx(i think that was it) virus"

then the scan stopped and the display window said "scan could not be completed" and displayed a couple of maybe reasons why,like add on couldnt install..

You need to shut down your AV program AVAST and try Panda again.


You can also run AVG Anti Spyware, it will also produce a nice log full of information

Download AVG Anti-Spyware Free to your desktop.

• Once you have downloaded AVG Anti-Spyware Free, locate the icon on the desktop and double-click it to launch the set up program.
• Once the setup is complete you will need run AVG and update the definition files.
• On the main screen select the icon Update then select the Update now link.
• Next select the Start Update button, the update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
• Once the update has completed select the Scanner icon at the top of the screen, then select the Settings tab.
• Once in the Settings screen click on Recommended actions and then select Quarantine <-- Dont forget this
• Under Reports
• Select Automatically generate report after every scan
• Uncheck Only if threats were found

IMPORTANT: Do not open any other windows or programs while AVG is scanning, it may interfere with the scanning process:

• Select the Scanner icon at the top and then the Scan tab then click on Complete System Scan.
• AVG will now begin the scanning process, be patient this may take a little time.
• Once the scan is complete do the following:
• If you have any infections you will prompted, then select Apply all actions
• Next select the Reports icon at the top.
• Select the Save report as button in the lower left hand of the screen and save it to a text file on your system <--Don't forget this
• make sure to remember where you saved that file, this is important, I need to see that log.
• Close AVG Anti-Spyware Free
