Zlob.DNSchanger and other things

[herefishy]

A few days ago Spybot found Zlog.DNSchanger registry change, nothing done; although the lastest Spybot ran in Network mode was clean(Safe mode would not boot). In shutting down my computer it keeps showing IEXPLORE.EXE that will not end or cancel(had to turn off computer). Google has been compromised and IE will not start through the shortcut. Save it to your Desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish.

Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Sorry for the delay.Prior to checkfix I couldn't get the spybot forum or IE to run from Desktop or favorites.. I got the Java loader but having a little trouble with the main program(user problem). Everything seems fine; I changed my homepage to google and it works ok. I read in some research that this zlob could change Paypay, for one, to send info(passwords, etc) to fictitious site; have I any concerns about that? Do I have a concern about restores? I appreciate all the help and will spread the word to the forum that suggested your site.

I tried to shutdown computer and IEXPLORE.EXE would not cancel or end now until stopping through
task manager or repeated end nows. When I rebooted the IE would not start through double clicking the shortcut. When I right clicked the shortcut and opened it--that worked. Then subsequent double clicks on short cut would work???? I got Java to download ok(I didn't allow the activex to get through the popup earlier). Other things appear to be working ok.

In answer to your concern, though I am not aware of this infection being after password, more about the $$$ from selling you worthless rouge products, I would still change all passwords anytime you have anykind of infect to be safe, here is some good information.

The HJT log appears clean of malware, it may be that the C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe
are a results of your attempts to access Safer Networking when the software was working poorly, I also had problems and gave it up for a while.

I would like to suggest you consider updating to Internet Explorer 7 for the additional security it affords at least, read about it here:

If you had multiple issues open you were not aware of, they would all have to be closed before the computer would shut down.
