    Default comodo conflict: advice requested

I had Spybot 1.4; I upgraded to 1.5. I should have anticipated my mistake. comodo got in the way.

I installed Spybot English only, without Teatimer. Suspicion arose when the first update yielded, "No updates available." Sure enough, when I turned off comodo, Spybot came back offering updated descriptions for ALL languages, and with updated immunization database, startup info, etc. I ran the initial scan, of course.

    Now Spybot is really sluggish.

Please advise me as to whether it is possible for comodo and Spybot to "coexist" and, if so, how I may arrange for them to do so.

Oh, and, please "dumb down" your advice. I can type, but I'm no geek!

    Hello.

I am not aware of any conflicts between Comodo firewall and Spybot-S&D.

Please take a look at the security settings of your firewall and make sure that Spybot-S&D is not blocked.

Default Comodo Works, but you may need to check....

I have been running Comodo Firewall Pro w/Spybot S&D 1.5 for many weeks. Works fine - including updates.

Might want to check Comodo Security > Application Monitor to make sure no Spybot S&D component is blocked. My Comodo firewall had several Spybot Temp files blocked (i.e. IS-K8K6E.tmp) that appear to be artifacts from 1.4 to 1.5 Upgrade.

Using Comodo's "Custom" security level and being very careful when answering pop-up dialog boxes during installation and the first update attempt helps a lot (many are default blocks).

FYI #1 - My first upgrade from 1.4 to 1.5 blew up for unknown reasons (might be related to TEMP files above). Suggestion: uninstall 1.4 before installing full 1.5 package (from trusted source).

FYI #2 - Spybot S&D 1.5 is significantly slower starting up and scanning than 1.4 was. (on my slower systems, that's REALLY slow) It's now comparable to the latest versions of Webroot's Spysweeper, PC Tool's Spyware Doctor, or Sunbelt's CounterSpy v2 (and, no, I don't run all of these at once...). Hopefully, SBS&D's detection rates are now back up with these products (all good; all cost a lot more than Spybot S&D).

My thanks to Safer-Networking for continuing to improve the best free product of any kind I've ever used, and one of the best anti-spyware products there is. Time for another Donation!!!!http://forums.spybot.info/images/smilies/heart.gif

    Hello,

Thank you very much for your offer to make a donation.
We are glad that you like our software.
By the way we already have located the startup problems in Spybot S&D version 1.5 and fixed it:

Here is the download file for the fix - the new Spybot beta:
