    Default Virtumonde Issue

According to my spybot, I have virtumonde in my registry, and everytime it tries to fix it, I scan it again and it's still there. Also, attempting to delete the infected keys manually has not helped either-they keep reappearing. Any help would be greatly appreciated. My hjackthis log follows.

    Hello muddyfoot5

    Welcome to Safer Networking.

    Please read Before YouPost
That said, All advice given by anyone volunteering here, is taken at own risk.
While best efforts are made to assist in removing infections safely, unexpected stuff can happen.

C:\HijackThis.exe <-- go here , right click on it and select CUT, then
Go to your C:\ Drive and create a new folder and name it Hijackthis, then open that folder, right click inside that folder and select PASTE

You have a backdoor trojan on your system that is going to keep on downloading this bad stuff, this is what you need to do.

Download VundoFix to your desktop. <--Don't run it yet

Please download OTMoveIt by OldTimer. <-- Close it, we dont need it just yet.

Download SDFix and save it to your Desktop.

You need to print all this out or copy and paste it into notepad and have it handy.

Now go and log off the internet, unplug your cable if your on broadband or unplug the phone line to your computer if your on dialup.

Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%
(Drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix)

Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
    • Restart your computer
    • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
    • Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Advanced Options Menu should appear;
    • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter.
    • Choose your usual account.
    • Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
    • Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
    • It will remove any Trojan Services and Registry Entries that it finds then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
    • Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
    • When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
    • Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt
(Report.txt will also be copied to Clipboard ready for posting back on the forum).
    • Finally paste the contents of the Report.txt back on the forum with a new HijackThis log

    • Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
    • Click the Scan for Vundo button.
    • Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
    • You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
    • Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
    • When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
    • Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log in a reply to this thread.

Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove. In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button" when VundoFix appears upon rebooting.

Open HijackThis > Do a System Scan Only, close your browser and all open windows including this one, the only program or window you should have open is HijackThis, check the following entries and click on Fix Checked.

    Good Morning,

It looks like SDfix did its job But the reason I needed you to move HJT to its own folder is because it makes backups of what we removed and those backups will be lost if HJT is not in its own folder, kind of late now because we removed a bunch of entries and you did not move it...MOVE IT NOW Please

Also, the reason I wanted you to rename HJT to Scanner.exe is because the thieves that have written the Vundo trojan have written it to go undected by a HJT scan and by renaming it if Vundo is present it will then show up on your log, you have not done that either, so rename HJT and post a new log please

Your log looks good but there are some Vundo files we need to remove.

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop if you don't already have it.
    • Open a new notepad window
    • Paste the list of files from the quote box below into the notepad window.
      C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\hjkkj.tmp
      C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\hjkkj.bak1
      C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\ijjlm.tmp
      C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\ijjlm.bak1
      C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\ilnmp.bak1
      C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\nnnmp.bak1
      C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\nnnmp.bak2
      C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\nqtss.bak1
      C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\prqss.tmp
      C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\prqss.bak1
    • Save this as vundofix.vft and Save as type "all files".
    • Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
    • Drag vundofix.vft onto the listbox (white box) of VundoFix.
    • Click the "Remove Vundo" button.
    • You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
    • Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
    • When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove. In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button" when VundoFix appears upon rebooting

Post the Vundo log and a new HJT log please

Good job But it looks like it missed one. It may not be present, take a peek and see, if it is delete it.

You need to enable windows to show all files and folders, instructions Here

    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\nqtss.bak1

ViewPoint <-- This is not maware but installs without your knowledge or consent and is not used by anything and also uses up system resources , you can remove it via the Add Remove programs in the Control Panel.

A free program for you to keep, I run this on my own systems about once a week, just do not run the issues scan.

Download CCleaner from here to clean temp files from your computer.
    • Double click on the file to start the installation of the program.
    • Select your language and click OK, then next.
    • Read the license agreement and click I Agree.
    • Click next to use the default install location. Click Install then finish to complete installation.
    • Double click the CCleaner shortcut on the desktop to start the program.
    • On the "Windows" tab, under "Internet Explorer," uncheck "Cookies" if you do not want them deleted. (If deleted, you will likely need to reenter your passwords at all sites where a cookie is used to recognize you when you visit).
    • If you use either the Firefox or Mozilla browsers, the box to uncheck for "Cookies" is on the Applications tab, under Firefox/Mozilla.
    • Click on the "Options" icon at the left side of the window, then click on "Advanced."
deselect "Only delete files in Windows Temp folders older than 48 hours."
    • Click on the "Cleaner" icon on the left side of the window, then click Run Cleaner to run the program.
    • Caution: It is not recommended that you use the "Issues" feature unless you are very familiar with the registry as it has been known to find legitimate items.
    • After CCleaner has completed its process, click Exit.

*NOTE* CCleaner deletes EVERYTHING out of temp/temporary folders. If you have anything in a temp folder, back it up or move it to a permanent folder prior to running CCleaner!

How are things running now ??
