Default SpyBot 1.5.1.18 - Slow Startup on - Do Nothing Immunizations

    Spybot 1.5.1.18 ( a Beta ? )

Startup is very fast EXCEPT WHEN:

    Auto Updates on startup
Auto Search Web for updates is turned ON
Auto Download Updated Include Files is turned ON

Update pop-up completes in a few seconds
    no updates downloaded

    If, and only if,

    Immunization on program update
if program has been updated is turned ON

Loading Spybot Progress bar stays up for couple of minutes - AFTER update pop-up completes

Services.exe uses 99% CPU during this delay

Turn Immunization setting off - instant start after update pop-up completes

Is immunization attempted even if nothing is downloaded ????

Hope this helps isolate a cause of startup delays.

If the "DNS Client" service is disabled and turned off the delay drops by over 90%.

This is a Windows 2000 Pro SP 4 computer.

Yes, that's probably the generic Windows 2000 hosts file issue.

See Hosts file immunization and Windows 2000 for our ideas on how to work around it.
