Guessing from our description, I would say it's a rogue, a fake application.

Right, it is a rogue Antispyware Tool! When the user starts to scan the computer the software shows some dangerous problems that are false positives and wants the user to buy a licence by frightening him that there is no other possibility to clean the system.

Guys....remember the old song lyrics...."when will they ever learn"?

Allow NOTHING on your computer till you've thoroughly researched it and know for sure that it's a good program and safe to use. A simple Google search is a very good place to start.

Almost without fail, any program that pops up and tells you there's something wrong with your computer and wants you to buy it to remove the problem.....is Spyware, Rogue, Trojan or just plain Virus.

    Merry Christmas Everyone!

the name 'error killer' doesn't make me think of legitimate software...

the problem I have is that when I want to see what these rouge programs are like, I can't reach the page due to it being either in my hosts file or thanks to sypbot!
    maybe thats a good thing...

They state to be an anti-spyware tool but employ questionable advertising methods: In the form of a PopUp they offer a scan of your system. They refer you to an infection of viruses and spyware on your system which is actually not true, because the listed items are not really on your pc. After downloading the software you can only scan for the threats. If the threats (pseudo-infections) are detected you have to register first and pay (up to $30) in order to remove them. Some of these dubious anti-spyware tools do also create a toolbar in IE and create recurring PopUps.

More dubious anti-spyware tools you will find here:
