    Default Newbie needing help

I am in between a novice and an advance computer user. I don't know anything about spyware, adware, viruses except that they hurt the PC and what I know about antivirus software is that they are suppose to protect the PC. I have read the before you post and have installed the spybot.... What do I do next? I also get a screen pop up from spybot about changes in my system and if I want to allow or deny them. I have read some post and it gets confusing when one moderator say accept it and another say don't and the tutorial say accept or deny. My bottom line question is this: I have run spybot and have 42 problems, what do I do with them? What do I do next? Trying to learn something here so I don’t screw up my wife’s PC because of my ignorance or lack of knowledge. Please help…

    Hello,

After a scan with Spybot all problems displayed in red are regarded as real threats and should be dealt with. For that you have just to enter the "Fix selected problems button".

On our homepage you will find a tutorial that should guide you in using Spybot - Search & Destroy.
It shows you the first steps you have to do to remove spyware and other kinds of malware from your computer, using Spybot-Search & Destroy.
    This is the link:
    http://www.safer-networking.org/en/tutorial/index.html

You will also find a detailed tutorial here on how to use Spybot - Search & Destroy to remove spyware from your computer:
    Tutorial

    About the TeaTimer question:
Please read this information about TeaTimer:
    http://www.safer-networking.org/en/faq/33.html
    and http://www.safer-networking.org/en/faq/34.html
If you surf the web and without any user interaction the teatimer pops up and warns about a registry change it is better to "deny", but if you install something by yourself it is OK to "allow" the change.

Thank you Sandra for your help in this matter. The tutorial was great letting me know how to use SpyBot, I completed the scan and repaired the issues that I had. Do I need to restart my PC or anything? the tutorial didn't mention anything about doing so. I am getting a whole bunch of pop ups with CiD in the tittle which is why I sought out this site in the first place. Is there something that I haven't done? Again thank you for any of your help.

    Hello Keith,

Do you mean Pop-Ups from the resident TeaTimer?
If you have scanned and fixed items with Spybot you also have to allow the registry change that the Resident TeaTimer is asking for.
Only then the items will be deleted completely.

Sometimes there are items that can only be fixed after a restart, so i would recommend one that the actions can take place.

    Best regards

    Sandra,

Hi, Thank you for your help...

My wife's computer has decreased in pop-ups however she still gets them. the word "Cid" is almost in every title, how do I stop them completely? Do I need to post a new thread in a different area? I don't want to break any rules on where I am to ask for help. Sorry, I'm not fast to catch on to these things as the younger crowd is.

    Hi,

I hope I'm doing this right. Here is some of what I get

    Attachment 1970, Attachment 1969, Attachment 1973

If I didn't do this right then I'm lost on how to do it.

I went to add/remove program and found a file called Cid Help. Is this the reason I'm getting these pop-ups?

    Attachment 1974

When I tied to remove it this screen pops up.

    Attachment 1975

I didn't do anything because I don't want to infect the PC any further thn it already is, guess I have more spyware/malware than I thought. Any help you can give is greatly appreciated, Thank you for your time and effort with me.

    Hello Keith,

Seems like you are infected with anything.
I would recommend to follow the procedure in this link: "BEFORE you POST"(READ this Procedure BEFORE Requesting Assistance)
Start your own thread in the Malware Removal Forum

Once you have posted a helper will advise you as soon as available.
