    Oh OK thanks, I will do then.

    If I find the problem I'll let you know what it was. I think faulty RAM is the favourite at the moment.

    Now looking more like the hard drive. Can the virus have destroyed the hardware itself?

    Very unlikely, the majority of infections now are designed to make money for the bad guys, so they want your machine functioning for as long as possible.
