    Default New hosts file

    Hi,

I just came across a new hosts file at http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm. It includes things that aren't in the SD hosts file. Is this something I should or should not use? Should this be added to the existing file, used instead of it or simply forgotten?

    Thanks,

    Andy

MVPS HOSTS file is certainly not new it has been around for years.

As of 2008-01-20 the MVPS HOSTS file contains 16601 entries. As of 2008-01-30 Spybot's HOSTS file contains 7900 entries (actually 7878 unique entries because there are 22 duplicate entries). There are 971 entries that appear in both lists of sites.

Using the MVPS HOSTS file alone there 16601 sites blocked.
Using the Spybot's HOSTS file alone there 7878 sites blocked.
Using both the MVPS HOSTS file and Spybot's HOSTS file together there 23508 sites blocked.

In other words using both HOSTS files together blocks more sites. The choice is yours. Personally I only use the Spybot's HOSTS file.

There are also other popular HOSTS files such as hpHosts (53549 entries as of 2008-01-31):
