I am having trouble locating the host file It may be correct but I don't know where or how to look for it.
went into windows sys32 and see files that say hosts LM hosts, Networks Protocol and services. So My guess is that they are correct.
I also looked under windows Help and saw a file that says Hosts and hosts. 2008 should they still be there?
I assume that
O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\VxD\MSTCP: Domain = mydomain.com
as I can see it in my log that I sent so I guess I must be ok in that area.
Mick,
We need to make sure all hidden files are showing :
- Click Start.
- Open My Computer.
- Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
- Select the View tab.
- Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
- Uncheck the Hide file extensions for known types option.
- Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
- Click Yes to confirm.
- Click OK.
Once your system is clean, we suggest that you reverse this to keep critical windows files from accidently being deleted.
Go to My Computer and then click on your C:\ drive, then click on the Windows folder, then the Help folder and you may or maynot see a hosts file in that folder, if not then Great, if so, rightclick on it and open it with Notepad and copy and paste it into this thread.
C:\Windows\Help\hosts

Found 2 of them. I sent them to you as attachments. Also could this be why my Computer is now running very very slow?
I am also reinstalling spybot S&D as it needed to be removed for me to reboot my virus scan.
also Do I need to delete it after I copy and paste it?
Mick,
C\Windows\system32\drivers\etc <-- If your hosts files are present here than thats good
C:\Windows\Help\hosts <-- Then delete this folder, but leave it in the recycle bin until we are done,
Download the HostsXpert 4.2.0.0. - Hosts File Manager.
- Unzip HostsXpert 4.2.0.0 - Hosts File Manager to a convenient folder such as C:\HostsXpert
- Click HostsXpert.exe to Run HostsXpert - Hosts File Manager from its new home
- Click "Make Hosts Writable?" in the upper right corner (If available).
- Click Restore Microsoft's Hosts file and then click OK.
- Click the X to exit the program.
- Note: If you were using a custom Hosts file you will need to replace any of those entries yourself.
Post a new HJT log please
