    Default Get prompted to install Spybot every time Windows starts up

    Hi - just upgraded to v1.5.2.20. Everything seems to be working fine but every time I start up Windows I am now prompted to install Spybot (starting with the "choose installation language" screen).

    I uninstalled and reinstalled, but it made no difference. I also ran a Spybot check plus an Avast virus scan, just in case. Nothing came up.

    I'm running XP. Grateful for any ideas!

    martpol:

    I suspect that there might be something in your System Startup entries causing this. If you post your System Startup entries, we can take a look. To do that:
    • Go into Spybot > Mode > Advanced Mode > Tools > System Startup.
    • Right click on the listing and select "Copy to Clipboard".
    • Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of the Clipboard into a new post in this thread.

    does starting in safe mode make it go away? Are you sure you installed spybot? try going through the installation and see what happens. if its already installed, it prob will stop if you go through the prompts.
