Scaning, only 3 sec, what is wrong??

Hi, i need help with scaning, everytime i scan it is only 3 seconds long i did what one of the advisors told me to do, but nothing happened it is still 3 seconds long plz help me.

I also witnessed this behavior recently on a friend's WinXP PC. After poking around the settings, including those pictured by mivanx77, I thought, "I've never had to check/change any of these before." I had already downloaded the latest updates, but decided to try using the download of just the detection rules. That did the trick, I think. The scan time went from six seconds up to the usual 5 minutes or whatever, but to our surprise, the scan still found nothing.

The PC's owner claims that SpyBot has ALWAYS found at least one thing when he scans, which I think is every other day or so. I suggested that maybe the Immunization has gotten that good; but he doesn't think so. Is he being paranoid?

I believe that the file that adignan is talking about is the manual update file. You can manually download and execute an update file from safer-networking.org:

  This updates the detection rules. Only needed if you do not want to use the update function integrated into Spybot-S&D.

If downloading and executing that file does not work, I suggest that you uninstall and reinstall the program.

Uninstall Spybot-S&D 1.4:

• Go to Windows > Control panel > Add or Remove Programs > Locate "Spybot – Search & Destroy 1.4" > Remove.
• Using Windows explorer, verified that the following folder has been delete. If not, delete it:
  • C:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy
• Make sure that all the registry entries that Spybot-S&D added during installation are removed, there is a .reg file available on the safer-networking.org WEB site that can do that. See the following article:

  • Download the file.
  • Double click on it
  • Answer Yes then OK
• Delete the Configuration.ini file

      C:\Windows\Application Data\Spybot - Search & Destroy
    • Windows ME:
      C:\Windows\All Users\Application Data\Spybot - Search & Destroy
    • Windows NT, 2000 or XP:
      C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Spybot - Search & Destroy

Reinstall Spybot-S&D 1.4:

• Execute the spybotsd14.exe installation program again.
• Do not change the default installation path of:
  • C:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy
• If you did not update during the installation, make sure that you update before running a scan, as follows:
  
  • Go into Spybot > Update
  • Click "Search for Updates"
  • Check everything found
  • Click "Download Updates"
