Good morning, if you are the mother, have a Happy, Happy

Norton/Symantec I do not use so I will be of little help other than to be able to point to technical support.
    http://www.symantec.com/enterprise/support/index.jsp

Malware can surely mess up antivirus programs (though I have seen nothing in the cleanup that should have done this) that is one of the first things hackers try to do, corrupt your virus protection. It is always possible the program itself has gotten corrupted files and it may need to be uninstall and reinstalled. I would let your technical support folds advise you concerning this.

As for Spybot S&D, I run the program and know a lot about it, but the Spybot experts reside here:
    http://forums.spybot.info/forumdisplay.php?f=4
Those folks are in a much better position to answer Spybot related question than me. I can post links that will probably answer a lot of questions:
    http://www.safer-networking.org/en/faq/46.html
    http://www.safer-networking.org/en/faq/index.html
    http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=250

Are you running the newest version of Spybot?
    http://www.safer-networking.org/en/s...d15/index.html

Understand, if you do something like turn off the Windows Firewall so you can run a better third party firewall, Spybot will flag that move. This does not mean it is a wrong move, Spybot is just providing you with information it thinks you need.

I also suggest you take the time to review the links I provided, those folks are experts in the malware removal/security area and will likely answer all of your questions.

    I hope this helps...Phil

Hey Mark, thanks for the feedback. When was the last time you opened the computer cabinet and blew the dust out of the fans, etc.? I don't like the sound of what you say is happening, it sounds like possible hardware failure. If you have not cleaned inside, or have not in a long while, pick up a can of clean air (office supply store) open the cabinet and blow out the dust. Be careful what you touch, only takes a bit of static electricity to ruin the motherboard.

Next I suggest you run a free diagnostic here:

If you have questions about the results, you can post those here:
    http://pcpitstop.invisionzone.com/index.php?showforum=6

It is all free and if you take the time to register they will even keep the records for you.

    Safe surfing...Phil
