Slow internet

For a few days now I have had slow internet. Sometimes when I initially connect my computer seems to hang for up to 5 mins. According to task manager there is little cpu usage during this time. When I check my send and receive data I find I have sent more than ten times the data than I have received. I am concerned I might be infected but according to spybot, avast, adware & kaspersky my machine is clean.

Save it to yourDesktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish.
The fix will begin; follow the prompts.
You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so.
Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal. Once the desktop loads post the text that will open (report.txt) and a new Hijackthis log in the forum please.

Hi Pskelley.

Thank you for responding. Can you tell me how I have managed to be hijacked by the ukrainians. As far as I am aware I have not allowed any unsafe scripts or programs to run. Concerning 'redirections', if you mean ending up on a different site to the site I was wanting I cannot say that it has happened. If I were to report any problems the only one that I can think of is sometimes when trying to download from the simviation website I have got the message that the download is unavailable but after repeated attempts I finally get the file.

Can you tell me how I have managed to be hijacked by the ukrainians

I wish I knew the answer to that, I am not even sure you were, just that the IP number is usually showing up along with their hack. They constantly change their methods to avoid detection.

Here is the information from that number:

1) We need first to disable TeaTimer that it doesn't interfere with fixes. You can re-enable it when you're clean again:
* Run Spybot-S&D in Advanced Mode.
* If it is not already set to do this Go to the Mode menu select "Advanced Mode"
* On the left hand side, Click on Tools
* Then click on the Resident Icon in the List
* Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts.
* Restart your computer.

2) Download ResetTeaTimer.bat.

Double click ResetTeaTimer.bat
to remove all entries set by TeaTimer (and preventing TeaTimer to restore them upon reactivation).

3) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
http://www.atribune.org/public-beta/ATF-Cleaner.exe
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

4) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program

Restart and post a new HJT log with some feedback from you.

Thanks for the information, if you no longer use Tiscali, you should be able to remove that item with HJT also. You may want to check with your ISP and have them make sure you have the correct information. Your HJT log looks fine and the KOS you posted was clean to start with, how is the computer performing now? any malware issues?

Thank you once again for replying.

I seem to still have a slow connection to the internet but It now seems only to be when I sign in. All other activity seems to be fine but I won't really know until I have surfed a bit. I will get back to you tomorrow or the day after if that is all right with you.

I have researched the Tiscali link and it looks like my service provider is using Tiscali to access the network.

I am wondering if the new version of msn messenger linked with Windows live mail could be causing part of the problem. I can not say for sure but it is possibly the same time for the slow internet and the upgrade to live mail and messenger.

As promised here is an update. Everything concerning surfing the net appears to be working fine. My send tally is lower than my receive tally and the pages load as I expect. The slow connection (or hang as some call it) seems to be being caused by windows update. Although I can not fing an installed update from the last couple of months that seems to be responsible for causing this change. Thank you very much for helping me in getting rid of the nasty.
