Annoying Startup item Rundll32.exe. Not sure what's going on with my Laptop

If it's any help I do have copies of the ComboFix log from right before this symptom occurred. I also have HJT & Kaspersky logs from around the same time

I tried setting some online images as "desktop background" and they worked. However when I try and set some of my personal photos as "desktop background" nothing happens.

I have fixed XP OS in a similar way.

I ran into this problem earlier this week and found the solution. The customer could not change his desktop background to any of the stock photos in Windows or his own photos...something that any Windows user should be able to do. Turns out that the root cause of the problem is spyware. Even after removing the spyware a registry (skeleton of Windows) entry gets left behind disabling the users ability to change the background. Deleting this entry restores the ability for the user to again have a normal functioning desktop.

WARNING: THIS SOLUTION IS ONLY FOR COMPUTERS THAT HAVE THIS SPECIFIC PROBLEM. AND IT IS INTENDED TO ONLY BE CARRIED OUT BY AN EXPERIENCED TECHNICIAN OR COMPUTER USER WITH REGISTRY EXPERIENCE.

1. Click Start
2. Click Run
3. Type: regedit
4. Navigate to the following registry entry: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System

"Wallpaper"=SZ:C:\WINDOWS\desktop.html (yours might be slightly different)
5. Click one time on the entry
6. Push Delete on the keyboard
7. Click Yes
8. Close the Registry editor

I'd come across that solution before, but I don't have that particular registry entry.

This is what I have in the Policies/System folder:

I searched the registry for "wallpaper" and found most files in following locations

HKEY_CURRENT_USER/ControlPanel/Desktop/
HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Microsoft/Internetexplorer/Desktop/General
HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Microsoft/Plus!/themes/Apply
HKEY_CURRENT_USER/wndows/Currentversion/explorer/Wallpaper
HKEY_CURRENT_USER/wndows/Currentversion/explorer/Wallpapers
Then last two are actual folders with the file "Default"

There's also similar entries in the HKEY_USERS

Let's do a little cleanup. This will delete the files also.

• Click START then RUN
• Now type Combofix /u in the runbox and click OK. Note the space between the X and the /U, it needs to be there.

Download the OTMoveIt.

• Save it to your desktop.
• Please double-click OTMoveIt.exe to run it.

Press cleanup & it will search for and delete/uninstall any tools you have used
to fix your problems and all their backup folders and then delete itself when you next reboot.

Reboot and see if you can change your wallpaper.

Tried uninstall of combofix, but it couldn't find anything to uninstall.
Ran OTmoveit, and it picked up a fair number of tools and removed them.

Still unable to change desktop to anything but different solid colors.

I noticed something wierd. If I right click on an online wallpaper image and select "set as background" it seems to work, although the image size displayed on the desktop is the same size as the image on the website. In XP there was a 'tile' or 'stretch' option, but I don't seem to have that with vista. However, if I import the exact same image to my desktop first, and then right-click and select "set as background", nothing at all happens
