Default Spybotsd.exe is not a valid Win32 application

Well, I am stumped. I cannot get Spybot to run, even with a fresh install. In fact Hijack this and ComboFix also give me the same error message.

Not sure if it is due to a failed Windows XP Service PAck 3 install, or some Malware I picked up.

Oh, and I can't start in safe mode, it gets so far and thena a blue screen pops open and shut before I can see what it says, and then rebbots.

System restore doesn't seem to want to run, and I can't even seem to get the Windows Original CD to run to re-install windows.

The only thing that seems to be running, is a Kaersky on-line scan...waiting for the results but nothing yet!

And Norton Ativirus scan...also nothing yet.

    Helpful suggestions greatly appreciated!

    Hello,

Your file seems to be damaged.
Please make a fresh download. Uninstall your old version before downloading the new one.
Please consider the following link for this uninstall:
    http://www.safer-networking.org/en/howto/uninstall.html
Then delete your temporary internet files in your browser in order that nothing blocks the new download.
    Then make a fresh install.
You will find links to several download locations on our website.
    http://www.safer-networking.org/en/mirrors/index.html
Do not forget to update using the integrated updater.
If the integrated updater does not work please download and run the manual update.

If this does not solve the problem you might be infected with a virus.

For a free anti-virus software for personal use, take a look at H+BEDV AntiVir:

    Hi,

    Thanks for helping.

I have tried to delete the old Spybot, but it won't let me delete SDHelper.dll Äccess is denied.

Tried to load the Avira Antivirus, but it couldn't install some files so I will reboot and try again.

kKaperskt finished after 14 hours. Shall I post the report?

    Ok,

The Avira won't install, it "cannot create basic\avarkt.dll"

I have updated my Norton antivirus def files, and I am running a scan now.

    Kapersky showed the following virus's:
    Worm.Win32.AutoRun.dev
    Trojan-Downloader.Win32.Bagle.mk

    More thoughts?

    Not in this particular forum.

Please don't try to install a new resident anti virus program while you have another, Norton, installed. Running an on-line AV scan is fine.

Follow the procedure in this link:
"BEFORE you POST"(READ this Procedure BEFORE Requesting Assistance)

Then start your own thread in the Malware Removal Forum where a helper will advise you when available.
