Spybot has this description of Microsoft.Windows.Exefile.HideExtension within itself:
Description=This registry value hides the file extension of executable files, even if the user has configured anything else. This may help malicious files to appear harmless to the user.

i never did put the new ones in because i don't want to take a chance
Ok,I see.
Probably no need for you to worry,even if Spybot did find Microsoft.Windows.Exefile.HideExtension after a scan and you'd rather not let Spybot fix that detection,you could choose to not fix it,or rightclick it to set it to be ignored.So,your best bet might be to download the updates.hth.
