    Hi moped12

Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:
    http://downloads.subratam.org/Fixwareout.exe
    http://download.bleepingcomputer.com...Fixwareout.exe

    • Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, make sure Run fixit is checked and click Finish.
    • The fix will begin; follow the prompts.
    • You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so.
    • Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.
    • Once the desktop loads, post the text that will open (report.txt) and a new Hijackthis log in the forum please.

Hi Shaba, and thanks for helping out.

After running fixit, I received a dialog message telling me that if I encountered internet connection problems, I should find and double click on the registry file dnsbak.reg in the fixwareout folder. I have indeed been having problems with firefox on that computer since first having issues with virtuemonde (the browser does not even appear despite the firefox.exe running), but I am not sure if they are internet connection problems since the Opera browser opens and runs just fine. Should I add the dnsbak.reg files to my registry?

Here are the logs of both fixit and HJT.

    Hi

"Should I add the dnsbak.reg files to my registry?"

    No need.

    Rename HijackThis.exe to moped12.exe.

    After that:

    1. Download combofix from any of these links and save it to Desktop:
    Link 1
    Link 2
    Link 3

**Note: It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**

    2. Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
    3. When finished, it shall produce a log for you (C:\ComboFix.txt). Post that log in your next reply

    Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

Combofix should never take more that 20 minutes including the reboot if malware is detected.
If it does, open Task Manager then Processes tab (press ctrl, alt and del at the same time) and end any processes of findstr, find, sed or swreg, then combofix should continue.
If that happened we want to know, and also what process you had to end.

If you have problems with Combofix usage, see here

Not that I recall, no. I did a quick search online for those IPs (just to make sure they were not affiliated with work or school) and came up with something called OpenDNS.com, which I've never heard of. I also don't think there is any reason I would want or need to redirect my DNS settings to use their servers, so that looks pretty strange...

In other news, my explorer.exe no longer crashes and reboots repeatedly, so ComboFix did something right. Thanks a lot for your help so far.
