Recurring Zlob Downloader and Win32agentdvu

Hi everyone,

I'm getting a recurring error message that leads me to a trojan every time I surf the internet.I've found Zlob Downloader and Win32agent dvu through Spybot, but even though I get rid of them, they keep coming back.

I would appreciate any help. Thank you so much!

All advice given is taken at your own risk.
Please make sure you have read this information so we are on the same page.

Many of the tools we use will not run on Vista and I am still learning how to clean this Operating System. I can make no promises because of this other than I am willing to do my best to help. If that works for you and you still need the help, start like this.

1) Please make sure you are running Spybot S&D that is totally up to date and fully immunized!

2) We need first to disable TeaTimer that it doesn't interfere with fixes. You can re-enable it when you're clean again:
* Run Spybot-S&D in Advanced Mode.
* If it is not already set to do this Go to the Mode menu select "Advanced Mode"
* On the left hand side, Click on Tools
* Then click on the Resident Icon in the List
* Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts.
* Restart your computer.
(leave TT disabled until we finish)

Unfortunately, the major tool for this infection does not run on Vista. Let's try MBAM, run the tool as administrator.

3) Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.
http://www.besttechie.net/tools/mbam-setup.exe

* Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
* Be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select Perform FULL SCAN, then click Scan.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location. The log can also be opened by going to Start > All Programs > Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware > Logs > log-date.txt
* Please post contents of that file & a new HJT log in your next reply.

I don't see the pop up (which would say I had spyware and try to get me to download a trojan) every time I open my browser, but I don't know if that means thinks are okay or not. If you have any other steps I should go through, I will definitely comply.

Thanks for returning your information and your HJT log looks clean of malware. Let's clean a little.

First, unless I am missing something, you do not have an antivirus program running on this computer. If this is the case, this is a very bad thing. If you need a free one here are three to choose from (install no more than one):

I am not 100% sure all three run on Vista, but that information will be there when you open their link. Once the program is installed, update it and then run a system scan, delete what it finds.

Understand that Windows Defender is a good free porgram, but it is not an antivirus program. Once the antivirus program is installed and has been run, then update WD and run a system scan with it.

Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

The reason why I didn't have antivirus on it before was that when I tried to download AVG, the program would tell me I had an antivirus on it already. I don't know if this is a common issue with Vista (maybe it thinks WD is an antivirus program) or if there was something else on my system that the previous owner hadn't told me about.

As it is I downloaded Avira and had no problems with that one. I updated WD and did a check with that too. Then I used HJT to get rid of the debris and cleaned the disk. The computer appears to be running really well. I haven't had any problems with it.

Thanks for returning your information and the feedback. I run AVG 8 myself and it would be unusual for it find that an antivirus program is on the computer if it is not? I don't have Vista, but to my knowledge Windows Defender is part of the Operating System. Was it there when you got the computer or did you have to install WD?. Please let me look at your uninstall list: Open Hijackthis.
Click the "Open the Misc Tools" section Button.
Click the "Open Uninstall Manager" Button.
Click the "Save list..." Button.
Save it to your desktop. Copy and paste the contents into your reply.
