    Question NetCom3 Cleaner

I ran SBS&D and it came up with what appears to show every file, registry entry, etc. concerning NetCom 3 Cleaner as being bad. I am snowed. Does this mean that NetCOm 3 Cleaner is some kind of Spyware or what? I only recently paid for that Program and I'm hesitant to just kill it. Any advise?

    Hello,

The reasons why Spybot - Search & Destroy detects this software are several ones:
There are anti-spyware tools like Netcom3Cleaner, which have a very dubious or bad character.
They state to be an anti-spyware tool but employ questionable advertising methods: In the form of a PopUp they offer a scan of your system. They refer you to an infection of viruses and spyware on your system which is actually not true, because the listed items are not really on your pc. After downloading the software you can only scan for the threats. If the threats (pseudo-infections) are detected you have to register first and pay (up to $30) in order to remove them. Some of these dubious anti-spyware tools do also create a toolbar in IE and create recurring PopUps.

More dubious anti-spyware tools you will find here:

    Have a nice weekend!

is it this site you were downloading it from: www.netcom3. com ?

if it was, then i can tell you that i couldnt visit that site, because it is in the hphosts hostsfile that i use, the hostsfile blocks malicious sites that try to install malware, track users, or installing rogue antispywares.

this is from the hphosts site abot the netcom3 site:
sites engaged in the selling or distribution of bogus or fraudulent applications

This classification is assigned to site's being used for the distribution of "rogue" security or other such applications, for example: SpyHunter, SpyFalcon, SpywareQuake, AdwareAlert etc

i found these three programs from that company on www.download .com

    Netcom3 Free Spyware Remover 1.0

    Netcom3 Advanced Registry Cleaner 1.0

    Netcom3 Advanced PC Security 2

maybe someone here knows anymore about this.

but i dont know if the one you have is one of this ones.

sorry mavchen, i didnt see you before now.

Netcom3 is listed as Malware in Spybot-SD's database.

    @blues, see what I mean when download . com isn't "100% safe".

The articles seems recent. I'm not sure of the cause. Maybe of server problems? You can get slow speeds if the "servers" are loaded. I don't think SpywareBlaster or HPHOSTS could be the culprit.
