The above post was by myself of the hijackthis log. I am a NEW USER and I hope I am posting things correctly.

Here is my problem and some of the history as to how I got to this point:

Problem 1 - Boot times went from about 60 seconds to over 2.5 minutes to get the system to a normal run state. When the system is running it jis not responding as quick as it did a week or so ago. Feels like some process, or processes, are taking up all the CPU time or maybe can't finish and are in a loop.

Problem 2 - I am having a problem when I try to right click on "Start" and get the window to come up. It seems to be doing something, hour glass is displayed. This goes on for about five minutes and seems to time out. During this time I can do anything else on the computer I want. The purpose for right clicking on "Start" in most cases is to bring up an Explorer window. A work around for this is to double click on my desktop icon "My Document", which seems to work just fine.

    Some history:
    1) A month ago I started having problems with my system disc and knew it needed replacing. I was trying to avoid doing a clean install and purchased a product called "Acronis True Image" version 11.0. This product worked great to image a new Seagate 250Gb disc as my new boot drive. After installing this new disc I also upgraded to 2Gb of memory (Kinston Memory). Again, no problems with this and the performance increased dramatically. Boot times to get system running were about 50 seconds.

    2) Decided to finally install Microsoft's SP3 patch onto my PC a few days later. Seemed to work fine with no adverse problems from what I could tell. Boot times were about the same, around 50-60 seconds.

    3) About a week ago started having problems with pc performance. I called my service provider and he said my PC was sending all sorts of things across the internet. I had a virus of some kind and purchased Zone Alarm's Spyware and it found a Trojan called "Downloader.Win32.WinShow.be in the path of C:\Windows\System32\123.45 and said it fixed/deleted it. The network misc. traffic went away according to my ISP.

    4) Two days ago my second drive started to have some problems and I got a message that there was a write error on this drive. Explorer did not see the drive at this point. NOT GOOD! I rebooted and the drive came back, but I could hear the drive doing many disc accesses and retries. I copied my data files to another directory on my C:\ drive. I purchased another internal drive yesterday, another Seagate 250Gb disc, and replaced it last night. Copied data files back to new drive. No obvious problems with the new drive.

    5) Today I installed; hijackthis, Spybot Search & Destroy, FileAlyzer, RegAlyzer, and RunAlyzer. Search & Destroy found and deleted two CouponBar's, one DoubleClick, four RealDownloadExpress, and one Xupiter.Sqwire entries.

I think the two problems I am having (right clicking on Start & slow boot times) are related. Any ideas?

    Thanks,

    Pat

I seemed to have fixed my problem where the task bar would hang when right clicking on "Start". I ended up researching every item in my msconfig file to see if I needed it or not on start-up. I disabled the following items from Startup via msconfig:

    hpztsb04.exekdb.exekhalmnpr.exeHkcmd.exect.extqttask.exewkdetect.exeteatimer.exemsmgs.exepchbutton.exebillmind.exeHpqtra08.exepas8_u~1.exepgptray.exeqbupdate.exeQWDLLS.exe

The right click problem went away, but not sure which one of these was causing my problem and don't really care at this point.

The boot times are still very long compared to before I had to replace the second disc. They are still over 2 minutes.

    Any ideas?

OK, that list did not work very well so will try it again. Sorry, I am new to this site -- Rockie Mistake! Can't cut & paste from Excel on replies. The files I dis-abled in msconfig -> Startup are:

    hpztsb04.exe
    kdb.exe
    khalmnpr.exe
    Hkcmd.exe
    ct.ext
    qttask.exe
    wkdetect.exe
    teatimer.exe
    msmgs.exe
    pchbutton.exe
    billmind.exe
    Hpqtra08.exe
    pas8_u~1.exe
    pgptray.exe
