Default how do I change my home page in spybot?

When I went to Columbia University, the IT guy reset my home page on my lap top and desk top to www.columbia.edu, and I cannot reset it in Internet tools. My boyfriend checked the registry and found that www.columbia.edu was listed as the home page there, but neither of us knew how to change it without fear of wreaking havoc on other functions. A friend who handles IT for a local hospital said that he had found that the home page had been set in the spyware on my laptop, and he said I could change it easily there, but I don't know how to do this on my desktop. Does anyone know? I would like to be able to change it simply in my Internet toolbar.

    jml2162:

    Internet Explorer?

    Within Internet Explorer
    • Go to the page you want as your home page.
    • Click Tools and then select Internet Options from the drop down menu
    • Click the General tab (usually the default).
    • Under Home Page, click on Use Current.

If either Internet Options or the change of the home page is locked, go into Spybot > Mode > Advanced Mode > Tools > IE Tweaks. There are three "Miscellaneous locks" on Spybot's IE tweaks page:
    • Lock Hosts file read-only as protection against hijackers
    • Lock IE start page setting against user changes (current user)
    • Lock IE control panel against opening from within IE (current user)

If either/both of the last two (2) items are checked, uncheck them. Then try to reset the home page again from within Internet Explorer.

Getting an answer is one thing, learning is another.
