    Default Search and Destroy (warning)

A friend of mine suggested I do a google search for spybot search and destroy, I was directed to this site http://www.search-and-destroy.com/ I downloaded the software thinking this was spybot S&D. I was then directed to purchase the software if I wanted to clean my pc of spyware/adware. I am now stuck with a program that is disfunctional ie, It refuses to update the definitions. I dont know if I have been scammed. The only way to contact them is through e-mail and all they do is give me the run-around. Have any of you guys heard of this company? The payment went through Paypal $59.85 for 2 PCs to a company called Liberty Web Inc I can't find Liberty Web Inc on a google search. Im not sure if these people are trying to gain from the success of Spybot S&D but it sure worked on me. I might not get my money back but I hope this helps others from falling into this trap! Any help or suggestions will be appreciated.

    Hello,

I am sorry but you have been cheated.

Spybot-Search & Destroy is freeware for personal use, and does not need to be purchased (although we appreciate any donation).

maybe this will be of interest for you http://www.siteadvisor.com/sites/search-and-destroy.com

spybot blocked me from visiting that siteadvisor site just because of that other sites url name, that seems to be a bug in spybot, it has happened before too. the blocking count in the bad download blocker statistics goes up when trying to visit that siteadvisor page.

WOT (Web Of Trust) will give a warn to http://www.search-and-destroy.com via a red circle when Googling.

To get around the problem even with "SDHelper" set to "Block all pages silently", go to http://www.siteadvisor.com or http://www.siteadvisor.com/sites/ and then enter the site (search-and-destroy.com in this case).

    Blues,

As md usa spybot fan has pointed out, Spybot does not prevent you from accessing the site adviser site, and from there obtaining their warning about the search-and-destroy site.

It does however prevent you from accessing the end search-and-destroy site directly via the link, which is a quite different concept. This is not a bug - Spybot is doing what it should do in this instance.

I don't understand what message you are trying to get across with the comment "i use to visit malicious sites sometimes, but have yet to get a real infection". This seems a bit like someone saying they have played poker but never lost - there is always a first time.

i didnt try to visit that site FROM the siteadvisor site, but i can not still visit the siteadvisor site, and the bad download blocker count was going one count up when visiting it right now. i cant talk for how this is for you, i mean if you are able to access the site with the bad download blocker on.

i can visit the siteadvisor site and type in the malicious websitename myself, but clicking on the link i gave out here doesnt work., it isnt a direct link to the malicious site, it is the information page from siteadvisor, IT IS A BUG, why block that one? just because the link has the name search-and-destroy.com in the adressbar? when it is actually a harmless siteadvisor information page?

however, i did type that malicious sites adress in the adressbar afterwards, and then it was blocked by spybot, but that is another case.

and the last message from me was nothing, really.

Maybe that's an additional security. Some links can redirect somehow like this: "wxx.website.xyz/&link=wxx.malware.xyz". Maybe this is a reason. There should be an exception only for SiteAdvisor.
