    Default Popping Sound

    Hi!

After installing the latest beta update (Version 1.6.0.30, System Settings Protector 1.6.1.22) I've got a constant popping sound sans pop-ups (Yes, show info balloons is selected) from the Spybot S&D resident protection.
If I shut down Spybot S&D resident protection the sound will disappear.

The popping sound accompanies each popup balloon notification from the SD Resident process scanner.
The most likely explaination of your report is that you have disabled ALL Windows balloon notifications.
You would then continue to hear the sound but the balloons would not be displayed even when selected.
If you untick "show info balloons" and restart Windows does the popping sound stop?

The setting that controls whether Windows displays balloon notifications is at the following location:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced\EnableBalloonTips
A value of 0 indicates Tips are disabled
A value of 1 indicates Tips are enabled

This is documented here - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307729

More simply under XP the setting is available via TweakUI the MS Powertool for XP
    Start TweakUI for XP v2.10
Select the "Taskbar and Start Menu" section
Enable balloon tips is controlled via a tickbox

If you do not have this utility it is available here:
    http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/D...powertoys.mspx

A reboot is not normally required to activate the new setting - but to be on the safe side always reboot after a change to the registry and then check if the tweak has worked.

    Hello,

To deactivate the TeaTimer balloons please right click on the TeaTimer icon in the system tray (actually titled "Spybot-SD Resident"). There you can uncheck "Show info balloons" by clicking on it.

It takes quite a bit time that the action takes place because some of the balloons are still in queue. They should stop after a while. A reboot might also help.

Disabling that feature cancels also the sound effects that were caused by the balloons.

Only the balloons with information concerning the scanning of processes are designed to be suppressed when "Show info balloons" is unchecked. The balloons with information concerning registry changes will continue to be displayed.

This information is also available in our forum: http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=32167

    Best regards

    Hi All,

I've made an observation about the TeaTimer process scan and related info balloon problem.

TeaTimer and Webroot SpySweeper do not play well together. You have to make a "user allowed whitelist" decision for SpySweeper's swg Global Startup Entry. With all of SpySweeper's active shields it makes 'Resident' go into Star Trek hyper-warp drive.

Maybe others are also having conflict issues with their existing software (s) and the new Spybot 1.6.0.30
