Desktop is fine on the user I'm logged in as. I tried to uninstall the old version of Java, but I get an error message. I'll reply with what the error message is exactly.

    Default Java error at uninstall

"You already have this version of the JRE installed. Please uninstall the product through your add/remove programs utility before reinstalling"

I guess we can get to that eventually.

Thanks for returning you information, you can try this tool for the out of date Java: JavaRa >>> http://raproducts.org/

I am not seeing anything I can say is malware in this HJT log.
Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2 Scan saved at 9:12:03 PM, on 8/18/2008

Most of what MBAM found is quarantined by combofix and in infected System Restore files, which we will address soon, this is the next bridge we must cross.

I am sure you saw this:
WARNING -THIS MACHINE DOES NOT HAVE THE RECOVERY CONSOLE INSTALLED !!
    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/comb...o-use-combofix
Review that information to understand Recovery Console. Installation is optional but if you do not have the CD's needed, as is explained, it can be installed before we remove combofix.
If you do not have access to Recovery Console via a Windows CD, I strongly advise you to install this tool.
If you do not wish to install RC, let me know so I can continue with the cleanup.
If you install RC, post the C:\*CF-RC.txt*.

Since we do not need to scan with combofix, click NO

    Thanks...Phil

    Default Recovery console

I must be crazy because every time I drag the Windows XP Boot Disc file to Combo Fix, it just runs Combo Fix and does not try and install the Recovery Console. What am I doing wrong?

I have no idea, I am providing you with the same information I provide everyone. Back off a little, read the tutorial, read the directions again, make sure you are downloading the right tool for your Operating System:

    Microsoft Windows XP Professional SP2
    Windows XP Professional SP2
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en)

Not sure what to tell you other than to make sure you are fresh and rested when you work on your computer.

    Thanks

    Default Recovery console

I have tried both the XP Pro and home just in case, but it still just does a system scan. I will try and find the XP cd tonight to make it easier. This is my parents computer, so I only have access to it in the evenings when I stop by after work. So it will probably be tomorrow to post a solution.

    Thanks,

    Erin

I have no solution other than the information I gave you. I can move by that installation if you wish.

    Thanks

I guess we can move on. I'm still scratching my head; and I'm sure it'll end up being something I'm overlooking, but I cannot for the life of me figure that out. Will it be too late to install it once I get the xp disc?

Ok never mind, I'm an idiot. I got it to work on my home computer, so I know what I was doing wrong. Not sure why it was so much easier here. Sorry about that. I will post the log tomorrow. Thank you.
