Unhappy Virtumonde- Please help a totally lost Swede!

My computer has been infected with Virtumonde. I have run SpyBot several times, but that does not help. Can anybody please help me with this problem? I have no idea on how to create or use logs.

    I use Vista.

(If you know Swedish, it would be great if you could write in Swedish, unless that violates the forum rules. If you do not know Swedish, I'd be happy to get help in English as well )

Hello and Welcome to the forums!

My name is peku006 and I will be helping you to remove any infection(s) that you may have.

Please observe these rules while we work:

    • If you don't know, stop and ask! Don't keep going on.
    • Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.
    • Please continue to respond until I give you the "All Clear"

If you follow these instructions, everything should go smoothly.

    Download and Run HijackThis
    Download HJTInstall.exe to your Desktop.
    • Doubleclick HJTInstall.exe to install it.
    • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis .
    • Click on Install.
    • It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop.
    • Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis.
    • Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
    • Copy/Paste the log to your next reply please.

Don't use the Analyse This button, its findings are dangerous if misinterpreted.
I don't help with logs thru PM. If you have problems create a thread in the forum, please.

    Hi Skarpa
(if you have problems with English , jeg talar svenska också..)

    1 - disable teatimer

    • Please disable Teatimer as it may interfere with the fix.

      First:
      • Right click Spybot in the System Tray (looks like a calendar with a padlock symbol)
      • Choose Exit Spybot S&D Resident

      Second:
      • Open Spybot S&D
      • Click Mode, check Advanced Mode
      • Go To Left Panel, Click Tools, then also in left panel, click Resident
      • If your firewall raises a question, say OK
      • Uncheck the box labeled Resident Tea-Timer and OK any prompts.
      • Use File, Exit to terminate Spybot
      • Reboot your machine for the changes to take effect.
Don't forget to re-enable it, when your computer is clean.

    2 - Clean temp files

    • Download and Run ATF Cleaner
Download ATF (Atribune Temp File) Cleaner© by Atribune to your desktop.Double-click ATF Cleaner.exe to open it.

      Under Main choose:
      • Windows Temp
        Current User Temp
        All Users Temp
        Temporary Internet Files
        Prefetch
        Java Cache

        *The other boxes are optional*
Then click the Empty Selected button.

      if you use Firefox:
      • Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
        Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click NO at the prompt.

      if you use Opera:
      • Click Opera at the top and choose: Select All
        Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click NO at the prompt.

Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program

3 - Download and Run VundoFix

    1. Please download VundoFix.exe by Atribune from Atribune and save it to your desktop.
    2. Right click on VundoFix.exe and select "Run as an Administrator" to run it
    3. Click the Scan for Vundo button.
    4. Once it's done scanning, click the Fix Vundo button.
    5. You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
    6. Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
    7. When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
    8. Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HijackThis log.

Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove. In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button." when VundoFix appears at reboot.

If you receive this error - "Run-time error '339': Component 'comdlg32.ocx' or one its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid" , please download this file and save it to your desktop.

    1. Right click on Comdlg32.zip and select Extract All....
    2. Click Next on seeing the Welcome to the Compressed (zipped) Folders Extraction Wizard.
    3. On the text box above the Browse button, copy and paste in C:\Windows\system32.
    4. Click OK.
    5. Uncheck (untick) the Show extracted files box and click Finish.
    6. Click on Start > Run and copy and paste in the following into the Run box:

      REGSVR32 C:\Windows\system32\comdlg32.ocx
    7. Press Enter.
    8. You should receive this message - "DllRegisterServer in C:\Windows\system32\comdlg32.ocx succeeded."
    9. Click OK and restart your computer. Then try running VundoFix again.

    4 - uninstall list

    • Make an uninstall list using HijackThis
To access the Uninstall Manager you would do the following:

      1. Start HijackThis (right-click in the HJT icon and choose "Run As Administrator")
      2. Click on the Config button
      3. Click on the Misc Tools button
      4. Click on the Open Uninstall Manager button.
      5. Click on the Save list... button and specify where you would like to save this file. When you press Save button a notepad will open with the contents of that file. Simply copy and paste the contents of that notepad here on your next reply.

5 - Run Hijackthis (right-click in the HJT icon and choose "Run As Administrator")
Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad

    6 - Status Check
    Please reply with

    1. the vundofix.txt (C:\vundofix.txt)
    2. the uninstall list
    3. a fresh HijackThis log

    Thanks peku006
