    Default annoying problem with google.

i have an annoying problem, i have always used www.google.no as startpage and have forgotten that www.google.com has more features, it also has more results than www.google.no even when searching on all languages on both sometimes. right now i changed from www.google.no to www.google.com but when opening ie7 i get redirected to www.google.no instead and must click on the "get google in english" to get to the english one, but when deleting my cookies i get redirected to www.google.no again. how do i stop this redirect? i dont get redirected from www.yahoo.com to no.yahoo.com when using www.yahoo.com

do google expect that we store cookies forever to make this working? what should i do to be able to use only www.google.com

Have you set Internet Explorer 7 to "http://google.com" as your homepage? Click 'Apply'.

Restart the browser (close and reopen).

yes i have done that in both firefox and internet explorer, but it just changes from .com to .no so it changes from the english one to the norwegian one. i talked with someone on the phone and they thought that it wasnt possible to use the english one without google setting a cookie when i click on "get google in english" so every time i delete my cookies i get redirected to the norwegian one again.

There is one configuration: multiple content language, but I don't know where it is in IE 7. In IE 6, it's located in Tools > Internet Options > "Languages..." button (In "General" tab.) Check the Languages List. Which languages are listed?

This problem is due to the Google system itself - not because of anything wrong on the local pc. Google started redirecting to the localised version of the homepage as far back as 2003 - and have more recently been geo-targetting the results that you see according to your location.

To avoid this use the /ncr switch:
    http://www.google.com/ncr
This sets a "No Country Redirect"
and takes you to the homepage you want rather than the one Google chooses for you.

Google doesn't shout about this manipulation of homepages or geo-targetting of search results - the best from Google I could find is here where they suggest using http://www.google.com/webhp instead of the /ncr switch.

The web has many articles complaining about this issue - here is a selection:

then it seems i must place a bookmark on the desktop because all this seems to need cookies. clicking on "get google in english" everytime i open the norwegian google is annoying and i am sick of all the norwegian search results appearing on the top results on the norwegian google even when searching in all languages, it makes the search results have less quality if you ask me because the english results is better.

i dont remember how it is with google, but the english yahoo has more search results sometimes than the norwegian yahoo.

thank you for helping me with this
