    Default SpyBot checnging my homepage??

I've recently started encountering an unusual problem. I run Ad-Aware and Webroot Spyware Sweeper in addition to Spybot and I have for over a year. In the last couple of days, I've started getting messages from Spyware Sweeper that Spybot.exe is trying to change my homepage to "CoolWWWSearch, and it asks if I want to allow this change. I have tried to uninstall Spybot and re-install it in case the file had been corrupted, but that doesn't help. I run Windows XP. Does anyone have any ideas or has anyone else encountered this problem?

Sorry, the title should be "Spybot Changing My Homepage??"

Hello, I ran Hijack This and tried to submit it for review. I get an error message telling me that the log is 11816 characters and there is a 10000 character limit. How would I get around this? Should I break the log up into two sections?

When you get the messages from Spy Sweeper what are you doing with Spybot (scanning, fixing, etc.)? If you are fixing something what is it?

Getting an answer is one thing, learning is another.

Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition running on a 2.40GHz IntelŪ PentiumŪ 4 Processor with 512 MB of RAM and a 533 MHz System Bus.

I get the message from Spy Sweeper when I try to Immunize with Spybot. I have read a few suggestions to solve the immunization issue and I tried each of them. I still have the immunization issue, but no one else mentioned that they were getting a message about Spybot changing their homepage.

I just installed what I believe to be the latest "issue" of SSD in the hopes that the immunization problem had been rectified. As of today, every time I try to immunize, I get a message from SpySweeper that SSD is attempting to change my home page to www.coolwwwsearch.com and SSD locks up and I have to terminate it via the Task Manager. As stated earlier, I am running XP with SP2, ad-aware and spySweeper as I have for over a year now. I have posted a log from HJT earlier.

Here's a thought that may help.

    1. Make sure that your homepage is set to the one that you want.

    2. In SSD, on the IE tweaks page, make sure that the box marked "Lock IE Start Page...etc. is checked.

    3. When you do a scan with Ad-Aware, it will show a problem because it thinks Spybot is trying to hijack your homepage. This is a false positive. In fact SSD is preventing a hijack. You will have to set your Ad-Aware to ignore this. If you allow it to "fix" this, your homepage is vulnerable. I don't know for sure, but SpySweeper may be doing the same thing.

This my Ad-Aware file that I have set to "Ignore":

    Vendor:Windows
    Category:Vulnerability
    Object Type:RegData
    Size:4 Bytes
    Location:...\software\policies\microsoft\internet explorer\control panel "Homepage" ()
    Last Activity:11-20-2005
    Risk Level:Low
    TAC index:3
    Comment:(Ignored)
Description:General Windows Security Issue. Your system security may be compromised. The specifics of the possible compromised item are listed in the comments section.

I would also temporarily disable SpySweeper until you get Spybot dialed-in and locked down.

Hopefully, I have given you a few ideas that will help.
