Virtumonde infection - possibly more
Hi there... I'm praying someone can help me as I'm stumped.
I popped out to the shop leaving a friend on my laptop - When I returned, I had a fairly serious infection by one of those lovely fake antivirus programs, accompanied with taskmanager being disabled, files to porn url's on my desktop, some desktop icons missing (though I couldn't work out which), no access to the all programs list on the start menu, and no drives listed in My Computer... oh... not to mention a fake Windows XP security center popping up and the words "Virus Alert" by the system tray clock and everywhere the current time displays to also!
Anyway - long story short, I've removed the worst of it - and there was a lot. I first ran spybot, rebooted, followed it up with Trend Micro Housecall, and all seemed reasonably OK for about a half hour, when I started getting what appear to be flash based popups again (with the little grey X in the corner")
A spybot update, scan, reboot, scan on startup, reboot to safe mode, scan, scan on startup later, and I've still got problems.
On each scan after the first spybot scan, only Virtumonde infections are found. Each time one is found, I'm instructed that I should reboot the computer and scan again by spybot - which I've done (repeatedly), but it never the less happens every time I scan - it seems spybot cannot remove this infection, or that the infection is getting re-created somehow. Judging by the last popup I just got, I think I may now also have a zedo infection, as zedo was in the URL. Most current popups are MS Antivirus or some such.
I've run Atribune's vundofix, but it does not detect an infection - having had it miss a virtumonde infection I knew was present on the system on a previous occasion, I realise that's probably because it misses it.
