    Default "Show desktop" icon hijacked

    Running Win98SE, upgraded/updated Spybot free to 1.6.0.30.

"Show desktop" icon no longer shows desktop but wants to scan it instead. This didn't happen with previous Spybot (not sure of the version no) and is a nuisance. Haven't found any reference on the forum.

If I right click the icon I get a menu and can bypass the scan request, but isn't there some way to just disable it?

Thanks for any help or (polite) suggestions

    edzell:

Your problem seems to be cause by the right click context menu "Scan using Spybot-Search&Destroy" feature in Spybot 1.6.

Although not necessarily written for Win98SE, see the instructions by spybotsandra in this post to disable the feature.

Getting an answer is one thing, learning is another.

Many thanks. I'll try those instructions in due course. Running Linux Ubuntu right now, or at least it's running me. I'll be back in Windows shortly, and let you know.

    Yep, that did it!

Thanks to you and to Sandra.
