    Default application error (0xc0000005) (rundll32.exe and userinit.exe among others)

    This has been a problem for me for a while now, but I've kinda ignored it up till now since it didn't really bother me, but I figured I should probly try and get it fixed before it got worse.

    Explorer won't run at startup, I have to run it with the task manager, and I get errors when trying to access certain things, usually accessories and things that relate to the control panel or cmd.

    Nothing really "essential" doesn't work. I can use the net fine, and pretty much all programs run. It's just certain Windows systems that seem to be failing.

    If it helps, I've also noticed that with my BitDefender, when I run a full scan, in the log, for some reason, something sets its actions to Ignore so it finds stuff but can't clean it anymore. Also, my windows updater hasn't been working for a while. It'll start doing it, and then say "The following updates were not installed" and it gives me the entire list, meaning nothing got updated. This list has grown quite big now, and includes lots of security updates.

    Here's my HJT log. All help is greatly appreciated.

    Hi

    Disable Spybot's TeaTimer
    • Run Spybot-S&D in Advanced Mode
    • If it is not already set to do this, go to the Mode menu
      select
      Advanced Mode
    • On the left hand side, click on Tools
    • Then click on the Resident icon in the list
    • Uncheck
      Resident TeaTimer
      and OK any prompts.
    • Restart your computer

    Please visit this webpage for download links, and instructions for running ComboFix tool:

    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/comb...o-use-combofix

    Please ensure you read this guide carefully and install the Recovery Console first.

    The Windows Recovery Console will allow you to boot up into a special recovery (repair) mode. This allows us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware. It is a simple procedure that will only take a few moments of your time.

    Once installed, you should see a blue screen prompt that says:

    The Recovery Console was successfully installed.

    Please continue as follows:

    1. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix, link
      Remember to re-enable them afterwards.

    2. Click Yes to allow ComboFix to continue scanning for malware.

    When the tool is finished, it will produce a report for you.

    Please include the following reports for further review, and so we may continue cleansing the system:

    C:\ComboFix.txt
    New HijackThis log.

    A word of warning: Neither I nor sUBs are responsible for any damage you may have caused your machine by running ComboFix. This tool is not a toy and not for everyday use.

    Default combofix issue

    I used ComboFix and it scanned, and it did up to stage 50 and then the next line was

    C:\ComboFix\DirRoot

    it stayed on that for ages, and I eventually closed it. It appears to have made some things work again though.

    IMPORTANT I notice there are signs of one or more P2P (Peer to Peer) File Sharing Programs on your computer.

    µTorrent
    LimeWire

    I'd like you to read the this thread.

    Please go to Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and uninstall the programs listed above (in red).

    Delete these folders afterwards:

    C:\Documents and Settings\Steven\Application Data\uTorrent
    C:\Program Files\LimeWire
    C:\Program Files\uTorrent

    Empty Recycle Bin.

    After that:

    Start hjt, do a system scan, check (if found):
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [1c3d196a] rundll32.exe "C:\WINDOWS\system32\jpqfwfoh.dll",b
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [KernelFaultCheck] %systemroot%\system32\dumprep 0 -k

    Close browsers and fix checked.

    Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into it:

    Code:
    Driver::
    rotr
    Schedule

    File::
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\rotr.sys
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\ctfmun.exe

    Folder::
    C:\Documents and Settings\Steven\Application Data\uTorrent
    C:\Program Files\LimeWire
    C:\Program Files\uTorrent

    Registry::
    [HKLM\~\services\sharedaccess\parameters\firewallpolicy\standardprofile\AuthorizedApplications\List]
    "C:\\Program Files\\LimeWire\\LimeWire.exe"=-
    "C:\\Program Files\\uTorrent\\uTorrent.exe"=-

    Save this as
    CFScript

    A word of warning: Neither I nor sUBs are responsible for any damage you may have caused your machine. This tool is not a toy and not for everyday use.

    Refering to the picture above, drag CFScript into ComboFix.exe
    Then post the resultant log.

    Combofix should never take more that 20 minutes including the reboot if malware is detected.
    If it does, open Task Manager then Processes tab (press ctrl, alt and del at the same time) and end any processes of findstr, find, sed or swreg, then combofix should continue.
    If that happened we want to know, and also what process you had to end.
