Default can't log on in XP because of Spybot 6.1

ran Spybot 6.1 the other day and evidently it deleted some crucial files as now I cannot log onto my profile, ie, I attempt to log on, it goes to my desktop image, then quickly logs me off.
I need to log on in order to fix the problem. But I can't log on.
So anybody have any ideas how I solve this?
    regards

    cornerstonesyd,

I suspect that the 6.1 Spybot you mention is a typo - the current version is 1.6.0.30.

The problem you describe is very similar to one that was thought to be due to using newer and incompatible detection files with earlier versions of Spybot, and there was also the involvement of a specific infection.

Initially the problem was thought to result from:
Spybot S&D 1.3 with current detection rules without HellzSpy infection.
Spybot S&D 1.4 with current detection rules and HellzLittleSpy infection

however later it seems there were reports of it occurring under other conditions, possibly where parts of earlier versions remained after installing later versions without uninstalling the earlier versions.

I have done a search in the forum and these threads seem most relevant - they are quite long but I suggest you read through them before committing to any particular action

Perhaps some who have actually experienced this problem first hand and resolved it might add some suggestions.
