help removing iexplore.exe

Hey guys...firstly may I set the scene?

I recently got the old 'your computer is infected' message after trying to download what I thought were some codecs. I realised straight away that this was a bogus message, and that all I should do is run my own programs to try and remove this problem.

I have AVG free, sophos anti-root and also malwarebytes anti-malware, and found varying results. AVG just found a bunch of cookies...sophos found a number of 'unknown hidden files' and 2 'hidden registry keys'. Malwarebytes anti-malware found 3 problems and were deleted accordingly (all logs can be posted).

The good news is the message 'your computer is infected' has gone, though I noticed iexplore.exe running in the processes under 'system' rather than my user name. I did some research and found this seems to be some sort of security issue, with people using iexplore to hide the fact that a trojan or something similar is running.

So, my question now, is what do people advise I do? What do I need for people to see if/what the problem might be?

Make sure you read and follow the directions, anything else will slow the process and waste both of our time. Posting additional comments or logs before a volunteer responds, can push you back instead of forward, because your thread ends up with a newer date. Also, helpers may think you are already being assisted because of the post count.

You are running two antivirus programs at the same time and this is not a good thing. They conflict with each other and you will be less safe than if you ran one good program and maintained it properly.

AVG8 and Symantec <<< uninstall one of those, then post a new HJT log and describe your malware symptoms. If there are error messages, post those word for word.
