Default Spybot stops working at 99.99% of scan

I run Spybot and it scans all the files but then stops at ZlobZipCodec which is the second last file to scan. I've even left the PC running for most of the night with no luck, so at the moment I cannot complete any scan. Please help

    Hello,

There seems to be a problem with your download directory/directories.
At the end of the Spybot scan download directories are also scanned.
Please have a look at your download directory/directories and try to disable it/them.

You can do that this way:
Please run Spybot - Search & Destroy and switch to the Advanced mode via the menu item Mode.
Now select 'Settings' - 'Directories' from the navigation bar on the left.
Then highlight your directory/directories by clicking on it/them.
Then make a rightclick on it/them and choose 'Remove the selected directory from the list'.
This should help to get the scan to work.

    Best regards

Sorry I did'nt get back sooner. I only have one directory in the list and this is C:\ along with the check box for sub-directories.

    lh017640 (Gordon):

The entries in the Directories feature should be limited to the directory(s) where you store downloaded installation files. By defining C:\* you are scanning your entire C drive for malicious installation files which is why Spybot seems to hang at that point.

PM stands for Private Message. The note in spybotsandra's signature is asking that people post in the forum rather than send Private Messages when requesting assistance.

Getting an answer is one thing, learning is another.

    Default ZlobZipcodec

I am experiencing a similar problem. Spybot stops about half way through the scan. It hangs up on ZlobZipcodec. I did what was suggested above using Advanced mode but in directories there is no entry. Should there be a file entry there?

    Hello,

Please make sure that you are running the latest version of Spybot - Search & Destroy including the latest updates.

To see which version number and/or updates of Spybot - Search & Destroy you are using please run Spybot-S&D and choose "Help" --> "About" in the menu bar.
There you can see which version you have and which updates are installed.
It should be version 1.6.2 and the updates from the 2009/08/12.

    I am using the current version S&D 1.6.2.46 8/12/09.

The reason I ran Spybot is that I am getting an IExplore.exe Application Error saying "Instruction at 0x0afa0068 reference memory at 0x0afa0068. The memory could not be written." My McAfee scan is reporting an error and can't continue its scan - so I thought I try Spybot but it hangs up at ZlobZipCodec.

Any idea of what is going on?

    Thanks

    Sandra:

I tried it today and it did not hang up at ZlobZipCodec.

    Thanks for your response.
