Default Need to Restore the registry.

My XP Pro registry is corrupted, not caused by Spybot. I did not turn on System restore point. So now my only hope is using registry backup created when you first install Spybot. I remember it took several minutes for Spybot to finished the registry backup job. It probably is a complete backup. If I can get that reg. backup, I think I can restore my system.

I can't find anything related to registry in Spybot --> Recovery.
Please teach me where to look for that registry backup and how to use it.

There are two files created as back-ups during installation:
    • regLocal.reg
    • regUsers.reg

The directory they are created in depends on the OS you have as follows:
    • Windows 95 or 98:
      C:\Windows\Application Data\Spybot - Search & Destroy\Backups
    • Windows ME:
      C:\Windows\All Users\Application Data\Spybot - Search & Destroy\Backups
    • Windows NT, 2000 or XP:
      C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Spybot - Search & Destroy\Backups

They are not full backups of the entire registry. The two files are exported "REGEDIT4" type files of specific registry keys as follows:
    • regLocal.reg
      [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software]
    • regUsers.reg
      [HKEY_USERS]

Personally, I have never heard of anyone using these back-ups (at least in their entirety). Once you've run your system for any period of time they would be outdated and could, depending on the circumstances, do more harm than good.

Getting an answer is one thing, learning is another.
