I believe it started when I tried downloading something from an untrusted website (stupid, I know), and then when I tried opening the file, an MDOS window came up and started intalling stuff on its own. Suddenly my entire screen turned blue and the there was a lot of white text which I could not read because the computer shut off immediately.
I was unable to log back in; therefore I logged on in Safe Mode. In Safe Mode I was able to run my antivirus and found several trojans and spyware. After cleaning them, I was finally able to log back on the normal way; however, things were no longer the same anymore.
NEW PROBLEMS I ENCOUNTERED:
- When opening Internet Explorer, the computer freezes and I have to force it off and then back on.
- Firefox is slower than usual.
- When going on google and then clicking the link for a search result, it takes me to a different webpage, always an advertisement for something. And the URL is usually an IP.
- In firefox this website does not connect: "Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at forums.spybot.info." I am using my AOL browser to access this site.
- SpyBot does not run.
- I do not have access to viewing the Folder Options from the Tools menu. It doesn't even show up like it used to.
- I tried burning a CD with music earlier; there was an error and I ended up wasting 3 CDs because of this.
- When cleaning out old programs I came across a Windows AntiVirus 2009 application that I knew nothing about.
There is probably more I haven't come across yet, but there's some of the madness I am trying to get down to the bottom of.
What should I do? I thought I was pretty computer savvy but I can't seem to figure this one out. I have HiJackThis. Should I post my log?
