Default HJT Log File - Need Help

    Hi,

I have been having persistent problems with my laptop ever since it was randomly infected by a program that pretended to scan and detect spyware on my computer and offering me to pay to remove it. I managed to remove the spyware with SmitFix about 2 weeks ago.

But there is still a slight problem that remains.

I have a google search engine toolbar in my browser so that I can do an easy google search whatever site I'm on, and since the infection it hasn't been working properly. Instead of the results page coming up on google.com it searches on a different site called asearchnget.com and doesn't offer proper results(But if I press enter and search again through the search engine on asearchnget.com, the results do show up on google.com). So I'm finding this a bit strange. Even though it isn't the end of the world it is slightly annoying and I'd prefer it if my first search would show results on google.com.

I am not an expert in this field at all but whilst I have been looking for a solution for this problem I stumbled across Trend Micro HiJackThis and it has told me to scan my computer and post my log file results in a forum(so here I am).

This is the results of the scan:

    Hi swinny

To access the Uninstall Manager you would do the following:

    1. Start HijackThis
    2. Click on the Config button
    3. Click on the Misc Tools button
    4. Click on the Open Uninstall Manager button.

You will now be presented with a screen similar to the one below:

    5. Click on the Save list... button and specify where you would like to save this file. When you press Save button a notepad will open with the contents of that file. Simply copy and paste the contents of that notepad here on your next reply.

    Uninstall via add/remove programs:

    IEBrowse Tool
    IExplorer Bar
Warning Center (unless you recognize it)

Looking over your log, it seems you don't have any evidence of an anti-virus software.

Anti-virus software are programs that detect, cleanse, and erase harmful virus files on a computer, Web server, or network. Unchecked, virus files can unintentionally be forwarded to others, including trading partners and thereby spreading infection. Because new viruses regularly emerge, anti-virus software should be updated frequently. Anti-virus software can scan the computer memory and disk drives for malicious code. They can alert the user if a virus is present, and will clean, delete (or quarantine) infected files or directories. Please download a free anti-virus software from one these excellent vendors NOW:

    1) Antivir PersonalEdition Classic - Free anti-virus software for Windows. Free support.
    2) avast! 4 Home Edition - Anti-virus program for Windows. The home edition is freeware for noncommercial users.
    3) AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition - Free edition of the AVG anti-virus program for Windows.

You should run only one antivirus program at a time. Having more than one antivirus program active in memory uses additional resources and results in program conflicts and false virus alerts.

    After that:

    • Download random's system information tool (RSIT) by random/random from here and save it to your desktop.
    • Double click on RSIT.exe to run RSIT.
    • Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.
    • Once it has finished, two logs will open. Please post the contents of both log.txt (<<will be maximized) and info.txt (<<will be minimized)

Thanks a lot, your information has worked perfectly and the problem has been fixed.

The reason I don't have an anti-virus program is because my laptop has been moaning for a very long time about Low Disk Space and so have had to remove many programs that I don't always use. If a problem does ever occur, like the other week I just download an anti virus program and remove it that way.

If you could recommend one that didn't use too much disk space and was effective I'd download that.

But thanks again for your time and help.

    Regards,
    swinny

It is essential to have antivirus installed as it will help to prevent malware problems. If you have low disk space, you can consider removing more programs/files you don't need or getting another hard drive. AntiVir doesn't take much disk space so I would recommend it.

Even if problem seems to fixed, please follow my previous instructions
