The following instructions have been created to help you to get rid of "CNNIC.cn" manually.

Description:
China Internet Information Center gets also installed along other software. It runs in background adds itself to various start locations to ensure that it gets started. It also adds itself to the Winsock LSP which enables it to control internet traffic. Currently removal will require to execute a tool like LSPFix.
Removal Instructions:

Autorun:

Please use Spybot-S&D, RunAlyzer or msconfig.exe to remove the following autorun entries.
  • Entries named "CdnCtr" and pointing to "<$PROGRAMFILES>\CNNIC\Cdn\cdnup.exe".

Files:

Please use Windows Explorer or another file manager of your choice to locate and delete these files.
  • The file at "<$PROGRAMFILES>\CNNIC\Cdn\Update\cdnvers.dat".
  • The file at "<$PROGRAMFILES>\CNNIC\Cdn\cdnforie.dll".
  • The file at "<$PROGRAMFILES>\CNNIC\Cdn\wmhlpr.dll".
  • The file at "<$PROGRAMFILES>\CNNIC\Cdn\cdnup.exe".
  • A file with an unknown location named "cdnup.exe".
  • The file at "<$SYSDIR>\drivers\cdntran.sys".
  • The file at "<$SYSDIR>\cdnns.dll".
  • The file at "<$SYSDIR>\cdnns.dll".
Make sure you set your file manager to display hidden and system files. If CNNIC.cn uses rootkit technologies, use our RootAlyzer or our Total Commander anti-rootkit plugins.
You will have to use a global search for files without a name specified. Be extra careful, because just the name might not be enough to identify files!

Folders:

Please use Windows Explorer or another file manager of your choice to locate and delete these folders.
  • The directory at "<$PROGRAMFILES>\CNNIC".
  • The directory at "<$PROGRAMFILES>\CNNIC\Cdn\Update".
Make sure you set your file manager to display hidden and system files. If CNNIC.cn uses rootkit technologies, use our RootAlyzer or our Total Commander anti-rootkit plugins.
You will have to use a global search for files without a name specified. Be extra careful, because just the name might not be enough to identify folders!

Registry:

You can use regedit.exe (included in Windows) to locate and delete these registry entries.
  • A key in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ named "CdnForIE.IEHlprObj", plus associated values.
  • A key in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ named "CdnForIE.IEHlprObj.1", plus associated values.
  • Delete the registry key "{5C3853CF-C7E0-4946-B3FA-1ABDB6F48108}" at "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\".
  • Delete the registry key "{5C3853CD-C7E0-4946-B3FA-1ABDB6F48108}" at "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Interface\".
  • Delete the registry key "{9C991F1E-D6FE-4B74-B6EC-763FF528FAE1}" at "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Interface\".
  • Delete the registry key "{F248EBAB-D894-4682-80E3-F48AABF4B12D}" at "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Interface\".
  • Delete the registry key "{5C3853CE-C7E0-4946-B3FA-1ABDB6F48108}" at "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\TypeLib\".
  • Delete the registry key "{DF571585-070D-4EB1-8B0E-99023F934FD4}" at "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\TypeLib\".
  • A key in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ named "WMHlpr.WMEvtSink", plus associated values.
  • A key in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ named "WMHlpr.WMEvtSink.1", plus associated values.
  • A key in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ named "WMHlpr.WMHlprObj", plus associated values.
  • A key in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ named "WMHlpr.WMHlprObj.1", plus associated values.
  • Delete the registry key "{5C3853CF-C7E0-4946-B3FA-1ABDB6F48108}" at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Extensions\".
  • Delete the registry key "cdntran" at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrrentControlSet\Services".
  • Delete the registry key "cdntran" at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services".
  • Delete the registry key "cdntran" at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\Services".
  • Delete the registry key "cdntran" at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet003\Services".
If CNNIC.cn uses rootkit technologies, use our RegAlyzer, RootAlyzer or our Total Commander anti-rootkit plugins.

Browser:

The following browser plugins or items can either be removed directly in your browser, or through the help of e.g. Spybot-S&D or RunAlyzer.
  • Please remove Browser Helpers named "CdnForIE Class".
  • Please remove Browser Helpers named "{5C3853CF-C7E0-4946-B3FA-1ABDB6F48108}".
  • Please remove Browser Helpers named "WMHlprObj Class".
  • Please remove Browser Helpers named "{F5824EFB-728A-4726-A5A5-85A68B20EDC3}".

Special Parts:
