The following instructions have been created to help you to get rid of "ISearchTech.PowerScan" manually.

Description:
powerscan_installer
connects to internet without user consent.
If the user wants to remove porn related items (the xxxtoolbar cookie is found for example) and clicks on the button , the Internet Explorer opens and connects to the power cleaner website.
Power-cleaner costs about 30 $ and is advertised as a remover for pornfiles.
If Internet Explorer is closed two new windows with ads for power-cleaner open up.

Powerscan_uninstaller only removes the directory in <$PROGRAMFILES> and the AutoRun Entry, the rest remains.
Supposed Functionality:
ISearchTech.PowerScan scans the computer for porn files and implies that it is also able to remove them.
Removal Instructions:

Start Menu:

Please remove the following items from your start menu.
To check where they are pointing to, right-click them and choose "Properties" from the context menu appearing.
  • Groups named "Power Scan\Power Scan.lnk".

Autorun:

Please use Spybot-S&D, RunAlyzer or msconfig.exe to remove the following autorun entries.
  • Entries named "Power Scan".
  • Entries named "Power Scan".
  • Entries named "Power Scan".
  • Entries named "Power Scan" and pointing to "<$PROGRAMFILES>\Power Scan\powerscan.exe".
  • Entries pointing to "Power Scan\powerscan.exe".

Important: There are more autorun entries that cannot be safely described in simple words. Please use Spybot-S&D to remove them.

Files:

Please use Windows Explorer or another file manager of your choice to locate and delete these files.
  • The file at "<$LOCALSETTINGS>\Temp\cB8GIa.exe".
  • The file at "<$PROGRAMFILES>\Power Scan\powerscan.exe".
  • A file with an unknown location named "powerscan.exe".
  • The file at "<$PROGRAMFILES>\Power Scan\powerscan.exe".
  • A file with an unknown location named "powerscan.exe".
  • The file at "<$PROGRAMFILES>\Power Scan\powerscan.exe".
  • A file with an unknown location named "powerscan.exe".
  • The file at "<$LOCALSETTINGS>\Temp\powerscan.exe".
  • A file with an unknown location named "power_remove.exe".
  • A file with an unknown location named "powerscan_install.exe".
  • The file at "<$PROGRAMFILES>\Power Scan\powerscan.exe".
  • The file at "<$WINDIR>\Temp\powerscan.exe".
  • The file at "<$PROGRAMFILES>\Power Scan\powerscan.exe".
  • The file at "<$WINDIR>\Temp\powerscan.exe".
  • A file with an unknown location named "powerscan.exe".
Make sure you set your file manager to display hidden and system files. If ISearchTech.PowerScan uses rootkit technologies, use our RootAlyzer or our Total Commander anti-rootkit plugins.
You will have to use a global search for files without a name specified. Be extra careful, because just the name might not be enough to identify files!

Important: There are more files that cannot be safely described in simple words. Please use Spybot-S&D to remove them.

Folders:

Please use Windows Explorer or another file manager of your choice to locate and delete these folders.
  • The directory at "<$PROGRAMFILES>\Power Scan".
  • The directory at "<$PROGRAMS>\Power Scan".
Make sure you set your file manager to display hidden and system files. If ISearchTech.PowerScan uses rootkit technologies, use our RootAlyzer or our Total Commander anti-rootkit plugins.
You will have to use a global search for files without a name specified. Be extra careful, because just the name might not be enough to identify folders!

Registry:

You can use regedit.exe (included in Windows) to locate and delete these registry entries.
  • Delete the registry key "IST" at "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\".
  • Delete the registry key "PowerScan" at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\".
  • Delete the registry value "BandRest" at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\".
  • Delete the registry key "PowerScan" at "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\".
If ISearchTech.PowerScan uses rootkit technologies, use our RegAlyzer, RootAlyzer or our Total Commander anti-rootkit plugins.
