Default Can't click in box to block bad downloads.

Hi. This is my first visit to your forum. Glad that you are here to help.

I noticed when I have updated and immunized spybot, that there is a check box down below to block bad downloads.

I cannot place check in box. Is this needed?

If so, how do you check it?

(I tried to pose a screenshot, but "paint" wouldn't allow me to. Is there a better way to use the screen shot tool?)

    I've never used screenshot before.

    Please help.

    Thanking you in advance.

Are you attempting to check "Enable Permanent blocking of bad addresses in Internet Explorer" while logged on to a "Computer administrator" account?

    If not:
    • Log on to a "Computer administrator" account and try again.

    If so:
    • Using Windows Explorer navigate to C:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy. Verify that the SDHelper.dll file is present.

Getting an answer is one thing, learning is another.

Thanks, md usa spybot fan, for responding.

"Are you attempting to check "Enable Permanent blocking of bad addresses in Internet Explorer" while logged on to a "Computer administrator" account?"-Yes

I am the only user of this PC and am not on a network.

    SDHelper.dll file is not present.

    Wher to next, coach?

    Download the following file:

    Unzip (extract) it into:
    • C:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy

Then go into Spybot > Immunize and try to check "Enable Permanent blocking of bad addresses in Internet Explorer" again.

Important note: The SDHelper.dll file has been know to have been deleted in the past by malware to prevent the enabling of Spybot's resident "SDHelper". If the file gets deleted again or you suspect that it may have been deleted by malware originally, please do not hesitate to post in the Malware Removal forum and have one of the helpers there take a look at your system. To post in the Malware Removal forum, follow the instructions here:

    Then post here:

Thanks, md usa spybot fan, that did the job.

I know there are no dumb questions, but I'm going to test that theory.

    What are bad downloads?

Are they bad in technical structure, or unsafe, or are they bad, as in 'naughty'?

Please follow LonnyRJones' suggestion and post in the Malware Removal forum to make sure that SDHelper.dll was not deleted by malware.

I tried last night to do a Panda scan. It wound up running all night and was still active this morning. What a waste of time. I should have notified the forum (LonnyRJones) of my attempt, but clicked the link in the topics post, to do scan. I will start over with the Trend Micro scan and post back later.

My thanks to LonnyRJones, for the help.

    Scanning and Cleaning Complete
HouseCall did not find any potential threats on your computer.
On to 'booting' in safe mode.
