Question Slow scan speed from 5/2/2006 Updates?

    Hello!

It seems like others and I are noticing slower scan speed with today's 5/2/2006 SpyBot v1.4 updates according to http://www.dslreports.com/forum/remark,16014465 forum thread. Does anyone know what's going on? I am pretty sure my system is clean because Ad-aware scan (5/2/2006 update as well) didn't find anything.

    Thank you in advance.

Thank you for reporting antdude, I will bring to Teams attention.

Looking at the dslreports topic, it appears the scan speed is not a problem for everyone.

    Have you seen this topic:

Yes, I saw that topic. Hence why I said I am pretty sure my OS is clean. I forgot to mention that I already deleted my IE cookies. I am going to try a scan on my office machine to see if the problem happens there too.

    Default Sooooo Slow

I'm seeing the same thing. The scan runs for 12 hours and it's only 25% done (status line says 8500/38200)....so I stop the scan.
I have v1.4 and the latest dectition update 2066-05-02. I have Win98 SE. My system is 1.10 GHz AMD Athlon XP.

Ronnie did your slow scan speed start specifically after the 05-02-06 updates?

Sorry, I don't know. It's been a while since I scanned. Before I started the scan I just checked for updates and downloaded the latest.

    hello,

if Spybot gets significantly slower , rootkit files could be the reason.
for now a quick method to find and disable rootkits is fsecure blacklight (still beta)

Just noticed another post that sounds like the same slowness problem that I'm having. Post Title "Who so slow".

In that thread different suggestions were given. Looks like this this a problem that others are having too - that should be resolved.

I personally am not experiencing any significant increase in scan time with the 2006-05-02 updates.

    Windows: XP Home
    Processor: Intel Pentium 4 - 2.40GHz
    System Bus: 533 MHz
    Memory (RAM): 512 MB

After Spybot updates I run a scan without usage tracks followed by a scan with usage tracks. The elapsed times of the scans after the 2006-04-21 and 2006-04-21 updates follow.

Scan time after 2006-04-21 updates (without usage tracks): 8:24
Scan time after 2006-04-21 updates (with usage tracks): 6:32 (See Note #1)

Scan time after 2006-05-02 updates (without usage tracks): 8:32
Scan time after 2006-05-02 updates (with usage tracks): 6:30 (See Note #1)

Like many of the people in the thread referenced by antdude above, I have not experienced an increase in scan times. From this I can only conclude that any increase is unique to the data on the system being scan rather than an inherent problem with the updates themselves.

Note #1: I do not exit Spybot between these two scans. I have always assumed the second scan takes less time because data from the first scan is in memory/page files.

Getting an answer is one thing, learning is another.

Actually we had a long topic regarding slow scan speeds to see if there was a common cause. Indeed in many cases there was; an infected computer.

If members with slow scan speeds do not post a log when requested, we cannot determine if they also have a compromised system. As in that particular topic.
