    Default Virtumonde.generic

    Hi there,

    I posted before, but cocked up the first log and posted another before anyone responded, so I think that destined my post to be missed!

    I have had some malware / virus problems, which I first noticed about a month ago when I got some pop-ups appearing and the computer ground to a halt.
    At the time I ran a full virus scan with Mcafee and a full scan with Adaware. Mcafee found nothing and Adaware mostly minor stuff.
    Since then I did a bit of reading up on best tools for virus & malware protection and decided to ditch Mcafee and replace it with Avira Antivir.
    I have also installed Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, Spybot S&D & another virus scanner (which doesn't run all the time and apparently won't conflict) called Clamwin.
    Having run all of these, I have found a variety of viruses and trojans, most of which were removed without problems.
    The only thing that couldn't be removed was virtumonde.generic found by spybot:

    Virtumonde.generic: [SBI $6C003E72] User settings (Registry key, nothing done)
    HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Ext\Stats\{6D794CB4-C7CD-4c6f-BFDC-9B77AFBDC02C}

    Virtumonde.generic: [SBI $6C003E72] User settings (Registry key, nothing done)
    HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-18\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Ext\Stats\{6D794CB4-C7CD-4c6f-BFDC-9B77AFBDC02C}

    I then get the following message when I try to remove:
    "Some problems couldn't be fixed; the reason could be that the associated files are still in use (in memory).
    This could be fixed after a restart.
    May Spybot-S&D run on your next system startup?"

    I restart and it still can't remove it. However I have not noticed any adverse effects or slow running recently, but still fear I may have something lurking in my system.

    My housemate uses my PC too and said that he found something that was hard to remove and used combofix to remove it,
    I don't however know if this was the Virtumonde.generic problem. I also don't know where the log would be, if it does exist.
    Sorry I don't have more info here, but I can try to find more if it's needed. I had no idea what sort of tool it was at the time!

    I have read the 'read this first' post and hope I haven't missed anything. Hijack this is in the correct place and teatimer is now disabled.
    Anyway here's the hijack this log:

    Welcome to Safer Networking, I wish to be sure you have viewed and understand this information.
    "BEFORE you POST" (READ this Procedure before Requesting Assistance) http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=288
    All advice given is taken at your own risk.
    Please make sure you have read this information so we are on the same page.

    I apologize for the wait, volunteers are swamped at all forums with infected computers. If you have resolved your issues, please post to let me know so I can close this topic.

    If you still need help, first I will say I see no signs of malware in the HJT log, then I will say this:
    You mention Spybot S&D and usually the reason it has problems with items it finds is because it is not up to date and immunized.
    Please be sure Spybot S&D is up to date and fully immunized.
    Spybot-S&D 1.6 has arrived! 8. July 2008

    After you follow those directions, if you are still having issues, post a new HJT log and I will take another look.

    Thanks

    Thanks very much for taking the time to look at my system.

    It's good to have the reassurance that the malware appears to be removed. Spybot is now immunised too!

    It'll be fine to close this thread now.
