    Default Pick up a virus

I picked up a virus Saturday night. I discovered it when I got a message from Spybot saying a program was trying to change a registry entry. I clicked denied. It keeps coming up and my computer doesn't want to boot correctly or shut down. I tried restoring but when I get to the screen saying verify restore point, I hit the next button and nothing happens. It also resets IE every time I reboot so that pictures do not show. Finally Spybot will no longer load and I can't go to safer-networking.org but IE goes to other sites. That's the only site I've run across that won't load.

Here's the message I keep having pop up:

    Here's my HiJack This log:

    Hi Randyvz

Before we start fixing anything you should print out these instructions or copy them to a NotePad file so they will be accessible.
Some steps will require you to disconnect from the Internet or use Safe Mode and you will not have access to this page.

    1 - SDFix

    • Download SDFix and save it to your Desktop.

Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%
(Drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix)

2 - Boot into Safe Mode

Reboot your computer in Safe Mode.
    • If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power.
    • Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
    • Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
    • Ensure that the Safe Mode option is selected.
    • Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
    • Login on your usual account.

    3 - Run SDFix

    • Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
    • Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
    • It will remove any Trojan Services and Registry Entries that it finds then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
    • Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
    • When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
    • Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt
(Report.txt will also be copied to Clipboard ready for posting back on the forum).
    • Finally paste the contents of the Report.txt back on the forum with a new HijackThis log

4 - download and run RSIT

    • Download random's system information tool (RSIT) by random/random from here and save it to your desktop.
    • Double click on RSIT.exe to run RSIT.
    • Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.
    • Once it has finished, two logs will open. Please post the contents of both log.txt<- (will be maximized) and info.txt<- (will be minimized)

    5 - Status Check
    Please reply with

    1. the SDFix.Report.txt (C:\SDFix\report.txt)
    2.the logs from RSIT (log.txt ,info.txt)

    Thanks peku006
I don't help with logs thru PM. If you have problems create a thread in the forum, please.

    Default SDFix won't run

I downloaded SDFix and have it installed in C:/SDFix. I boot in safe mode and everything works fine. I used windows explorer to navigate to the SDFix folder. When I double click runthis.bat a command prompt window opens and SDFix starts to run but then my computer freezes. I can't move the mouse, the keyboard doesn't work, ctrl/alt/del doesn't work. I have to hold down the power switch to get my computer to shut down. I also tried using the command prompt command from my accessories menu. The command prompt window opens, but the computer freezes again and nothing works. Any suggestions?

Also, whatever trojan or virus I have blocks safer-networking.org. I'm having to use another computer to get this. It also blocked the sites to both programs you told me to use. I had to save them to another computer and use a flash drive to transfer them to my laptop.

    Hi Randyvz
    Letīs try this.......

Download Combofix from any of the links below. You must rename it before saving it. Save it to your desktop.

    Link 1
    Link 2
    Link 3

    --------------------------------------------------------------------

Double click on Combo-Fix.exe & follow the prompts.
    • When finished, it will produce a report for you.
    • Please post the C:\ComboFix.txt along with a HijackThis log so we can continue cleaning the system.

    Thanks peku006

    Default ComboFix won't run either

Downloaded ComboFix and placed it on my desktop. When I double click it the hourglass comes on for about 5 seconds and then goes away and the program doesn't run. Same thing happens with Spybot Search and Destroy. SDFix locked up my computer. But I haven't run across any non-malware program that won't run. I did get HiJackThis to run. I also have CCleaner and it will run if that will help.

When I use IE, sites such as safer-networking.org and the sites with the programs to you told me to download are blocked (I use another computer to download the files and move them with a flash drive to my laptop) but other sites load normally.

    Hi Randyvz

Click here and select Open (or Run) to run a tool that will check your computer for a specific rootkit infection.
When the tool completes a log will open.
Please post the contents of that log.

Note - if you do not have the option to open or run, you may save it and run it from your hard drive
