    Thanks for returning your information:
The computer is running very slow and occassionally freezes up completely.
When the computer "freezes" you should get an error message. If so, please post that word for word.

    please provide this information:
Right click MyComputer then click Properties. On the General tab in the lower right corner is the RAM, post that information.
(post that information as soon as you have it)

You have a load of running processes, the programs have to be started, use resources when they run if you use them or not and slow the shutdown. Symantec is also a hugh resource user that you can not do without so you need to evaulate the programs you are running and see what actually need to run each time you start. This information will help you do just that.

Since I am seeing no malware, let's remove combofix and wrap up like this.

Remove combofix from the computer like this:

    Click START then RUN
Now type or copy Combofix /u in the runbox and click OK.
Note the space between the X and the U, it needs to be there.

Clean the System Restore files like this:

    Turn off System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
    Click Properties.
    Click the System Restore tab.
    Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

    Reboot

    Turn ON System Restore,
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
    Click Properties.
    Click the System Restore tab.
    UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Update MBAM and scan to be sure we missed none of the junk, there is no need to post a clean scan result.
(MBAM is yours to keep if you wish, update it and run it once a month or so)

Update Symantec and scan the system, to be sure it is running right and scanning clean. If you have problems with the program, contact tech support for instructions.

If all is well at this point, let me know and I will close the topic.

    Default Ram

I have 4 GB RAM installed, although Properties says 3.25 GB.

I don't get an error code when it freezes. The screen just blacks out for about 10 seconds then comes back on but I can't even move my mouse or type with the keyboard. Then, after a minute or so, it starts working again, only the type appears very slowly. After about 5 minutes of that, the computer goes back to normal.

I am going to remove Combofix, turn off System Restore, and reboot now. Then I will run the MBAM again. Since it takes 4+ hours, I will likely post again on Monday, since I am off to ski this weekend.

Wish I was going off to ski this weekend that's plenty of RAM. My gut feeling is it sounds like it may be an out of date driver?

I am also concerned about the length of time for the MBAM scan, takes a bit over one hour on my computers. You may want to defrag that hard drive before running it to see if that improves the running time or not run it at all, since it only found one item last scan.

You may get information from a free diagnostic scan here: http://www.pcpitstop.com/
There is no need to buy anything, just run the scan.
    http://www.pcpitstop.com/pcpitstop/default.asp
You will have to register free and I suggest that.

    Thanks

    Smile Looking ok

So far it hasn't 'blacked out' since last week, and my logs ran clean. Also the MBAM ran in under 3 hours this time:
