Unhappy Spybot wont display on my laptop

Man, my laptop was loaned to a friend and when I got it back, holy moly! It's really bad with spyware, etc. I went to install spybot and I couldnt even open the website. It wont allow you to go to any anti-spyware websites, none! I looked in internet explorer's restricted sites and looky there, all the spybot websites, and all sorts of anti-spyware sites were blocked. I went in the registry and removed those and restarted. Now none of the sites show up in internet explorer but I still couldnt go to them. When you search in google, it gives you results but when you click them, it pops up a page instead of a spyware ad every single time and wont connect you to any site which has to do with anti-spyware. Needless to say, I used a proxy website to get to spybot and downloaded it and downloaded the included updates. But, when I try to open spybot, it opens in the process list but nothing on the screen, as if something is watching for it and hiding it. Please anybody help on this. How can I get spybot to show up and get rid of this evil spyware or whatever it is?

    Thanks in advance for help.

Consider posting in the Malware Removal forum and having someone take a look at your system.

If you decide to have an experienced malware removal specialist assist you, please follow the procedure in the following link and produce a HijackThis log:
After you have read and followed those instructions (excluding running a Spybot scan since it seems you can't), start your own thread in the Malware Removal forum, making sure to post the HijackThis log produced from those instructions.

Getting an answer is one thing, learning is another.
