I must chime in also and wish everyone the best with the new site. I must say that it "feels" right being on a Spybot Search & Destroy site!

Talking Rumors suck don't they? =)

Funny how the rumors start... out of nothingness.. :P

Invision licence being terminated would be a good reason for the site to not work =)

Some people just don't read :D

I guess we don't read. I also guess those of us curious and a little in the know wouldn't think that he lost/crashed his box and had to move to a low level host instead of taking a few hours to move into another box just because of a software EULA all while dropping and never saying a word to any of the clients he hosted. I'm so glad you set us straight.

Shall we get back to reality? I hadn't meant to post to this topic here again but I don't much care about fairy tales and just felt the need to say so.

Lightbulb FYI to anyone / everyone

I was referencing this notice, originally posted on spybot.info under support:

Invision Powerboard by Invision Power Services, Inc.
is a forum software used by many, according to their
own site including huge companies like AMD, Sony,
Yahoo!, Sharp, nVidia and others. But going commercial
was not the only change - when we recently wanted to
buy a license, we found out that the links to their
privacy policy and contact page were broken. We tried
to contact them about this, requesting information
about their privacy policy, but instead of receiving
this information, our license was suddenly terminated.
And after a more formal way of inquiring about their
privacy policy, our account into their Client Area was
cancelled as well - again without any explanation by
    email.

Privacy policy and contact information are now again
available from their start page, but the Client Area,
where this information is most important, still
    includes invalid links.

From the valid link, I found the sentence "You can
access all your personally identifiable information
that we collect online and maintain by emailing our
privacy department or otherwise contacting our
company.". This part of their own privacy policy they
already violated when we did request our information.
I wonder what other parts of their privacy policy they
are violating? The email address mentioned in their
privacy policy is broken and all mails are being
bounced. Seeing the list of existing clients, I wonder
if all these clients have actually agreed to have
their name posted as a customer of Invision Power
Services, Inc., or if this is just another violation
of their privacy policy. We're investigating this with
    the mentioned clients.

An official statement from IPS I requested did neither
answer the question why the privacy policy link and
privacy policy email address are broken. The
explanation why our account was deleted and license
terminated was that they did not like the tone of our
fourth mail requesting assistance with their broken
privacy policy and the license. The request for access
to the stored information was denied because the
information was said to be completely deleted, while
at the same time the email referenced to parts of that
information that are obviously still stored (update:
on 13th we received another mail from a person that
didn't even know our account was cancelled, regarding
our account - so obviously by far not all data was
    deleted as said).

From our standpoint, we can only strongly recommend
against using the board software from this company (at
least on new systems) until privacy matters have been
    improved at IPS, Inc.

From various straws, I have concluded that this is the new permanent support forum for Spybot - whether or not N-I forums come back.

I'm really cnm, but the software here insisted on name having 5 characters or more.

Well Brent, your comment about no one reading seems a little strange since that 'notice' you ref to(I read it when it was posted) doesn't answer or even have any bearing on any of the many questions that those curious have posed. I know for a fact that Ahmad's clients who were screwed want answers and folks like me just want their curiosity quenched.

Since you seem to think you know the answers well enough to make comments like "Funny how the rumors start... out of nothingness.. :P' & "Some people just don't read' , perhaps you would care to answer the querries I mentioned earlier in this thread instead of making meaningless comments that don't answer to anything.

    "Like;
Why did NI move to a low level host instead of just to another box as would be standard procedure with any server farm?

Why were all other domains shut down without even notifying the owners/users.

How could any kind of crash cause this kind of down time? My box could completely burn up and I'd be back in a matter of hours using my backups.

Since it seems totally unfeasible to try to maintain two support boards, why this board?"

EDIT: I know it is doubtfull that any answers will ever come out and I'd just as soon not reply to this thread again. However, if Brent or anyone else wants to insult our intelligence with nonsense, then I'll be obliged to step on it.

Personally, I'm very glad to see PMK move to his own board/site. I think it's one of his best decisions.

If NI is anything like me, I had issues with my colo provider, killed my account, and moved on to a different provider. I was back up within a couple of hours just as you stated you were capable of, but all of it was sparked by a dead HD. Yes, backups were in place, but if I was going to restore / start over with a new machine, I didn't want to do it @ the same provider.

    But it happens..

I wouldn't consider Liquid Web low level hosting though..

I think you missed the mark again. While LiquidWeb is a medium-large provider(managed services_yuk), his 'low level' host is not. He is now hosted by http://anrhost.com/ who in turn is hosted by LiquidWeb. You would have known that if you had followed the link in my first post. Guess you didn't read...ironic.
